Well, you're certainly an expert on hyperbole.

I legit don't like Brouwer playing for the Flames in his current contract and production. All those options I listed were honest hopeful opportunities. How is that a hyperbole? Ignorance perhaps, but it's not exaggerated if it's genuine belief

We are stuck with Brouwer for now. The cost of unloading him is too high and there is still the very real possibility of him bouncing back.
People have short memories - funny how Engelland was brought up in this thread because his contract looked god awful after his first year but by his last year, people were actually entertaining the thought of bringing him back.
I am just as frustrated at how last season went, but I'm willing to give him a little more time to bounce back from a season marred from an injury where his production was half his usual career average.

Buying out Brouwer this off-season would have been silly with 3 years left. If he disappoints again then buying him out next off-season makes a lot more sense, but even at that point they only have Backlund to sign for 2018-19. So they probably could keep Brouwer for another season and buy him out after 2019-20 season when Tkachuk needs to be re-signed.

Not defending Brouwer at all but the same hate for Stajan was once here and he's become that dependable player you need.
Not so long ago Martin Gelinas was a player who wasn't maybe the most productive but was a smart player to have around and was always in the right place at the right time.
Hopefully Brouwer can contribute like that.....I'm tired of how much hate some players get on our roster dispite what they are playing thru.
I likely hate him the most but if he can get something going this year I'll change my hard to change tune.

I think he was probably talking about guys who say that Brouwer is no good at hockey, and make suggestions like "Mike Richardsing" his contract. Or that thinking he might be better this year and should play is "make-believe"
Oh wait, that was you.

If in fact, each of the options listed were indeed "honest and hopeful", you may be the least self aware person on this forum.
Because I'm having trouble recognizing "finding criminal activity" as being "honest and hopeful," and looks very much like part of a post designed primarily to inflame.
I'll mention that a post that was "honest" would have included the possibility that he simply improves after overcoming an injury filled season.

There is no way we should ever consider buying Brouwer out.. Eat half his contract in a trade but don't buy the guy out.

Lind of weird there is a lot of bashing to the OP when he starts a thread for the whipping boy which is very valid summer discussion.
Unfortunately Brouwer was not selected by Vegas and the Flames are stuck with that deal for at least another year.
My suggestion is play him with Backs and Frolik. Switch Fro to the left side and stick Brouwer with th in hopes he rebounds. Brouwer makes Bennett worse and he didn't fit with Monahan. 4th line with Jankowski/Stajan/Lazar is an option but he will certainly be i tradeable for the life of his deal if He remains a 4th liner.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Bennett-Versteeg
Frolik-Backlund-Brouwer
Stajan-Jankowski-Lazar

The topic itself is perfectly valid. The way he framed it and presented it was brutal and embarrassing

For sure. Someone has concerns about a vet in his 30's to signs a big contract and has the worst year of his career? Or if you think that even if he played at his regular pace all year, whether or not the contract is worth it even then? That's a discussion worth having, and and argument I'll listen too.
Coming out of the gate with the first post with ridiculousness like suggesting either we pull some LA shadyness to screw over a guy that had a bad year, or put blinders on and convince ourselves he's ok? That's not a thread opener that promotes discussion, that's just being silly

If Brouwer can't find any offensive touch that's fine, but if that's the case, he better damn well be kickin ass and takin names out there. Including dropping the gloves as necessary.
That's what pissed me off the most about him last season actually. No intensity, no heart, skating away from scrums.

I think you play him and give him a chance of redemption next season. If he doesn't improve you bench him and waiver him. If unclaimed you demote him and buy him out at seasons end.

Coming off a hand injury might have held him back a bit. Hopefully he'll be more physical this year.
