One off-year doesn't mean we're embracing loser garbage. We have a hell of a core that's still missing a piece, a big sniping forward. This draft's top 2 picks are huge sniping forwards in Laine/Matthews. Picks 5-12 are probably good, but not likely to be the same kind of core pieces.

If you're gonna be bad, be bad enough that you're not bad for much more than a couple (more) months. The San Antonio Spurs did it in 1997 and they're up there with the Detroit Red Wings as the most respected pro sports franchise on the continent.

Let's not act like anyone here would rather have Bo Horvat and Jake Virtanen over Sean Monahan and Sam Bennett. Those extra two-three spots in the standings are all the difference.

Hey buddy, I want to win. Me thinking how great it would be to get Matthews isnt embtacing sucking. If i had it my way they would be a playoff team again, but its not going to happen. Since playoffs arent going to happen a top 3 pick would help build the team. If the season ends right now theres a pretty good chance to win a lottery pick. Im makung lemonade from lemons. Your sour.

All the Canadian teams in the bottom 9 of the league right now. Could be exciting trade deadline and draft coverage up here lol!

When I say embrace the tank, I'm not saying hey let's just lose on purpose. NOBODY would ever do that..except Edmonton.

I'm just talking about selling off Huds, hopefully russell and maybe more.
Continue the rebuild.

Flames have somewhere near 70% chance of missing the playoffs after this lost.

I don't cheer for losses ever but I have made peace with the fact this team will not be in this years post season. They need to win 83% off the games left to get in.

Its not about embracing #### . It is about living in reality and not being that fan that lives in a delusional state.

Getting a 6-4 RW in Laine who some compare to Ovechkin and Stamkos in terms of the quality of his shot would be perfect for the team moving forward.

Having him opposite one of the best playmakers in the league would be an absolutely lethal combination.

Yes, it sucks that the Flames are losing, but the team isn't far off of being a contender. 1-2 pieces more and they're set. Getting someone like Laine would be a great thing for the chances that the Flames could win a cup in the next couple seasons.

They had lots of chances but didn't have the people to finish.

Yep. Gotta change my mindset. Losses while not good, shouldn't as unacceptable anymore. Have to lower the expectations. If they somehow do make the increasingly improbable run, it's a huge bonus.

Time to sell off any of the UFAs they can: Hudler, Russell & Jones. And if you can't trade them, just let them walk. This team needs to make changes. They are still rebuilding after all.

What? Under what system are the flames last? They're tied for points but have games in hand, that's not last under any system.

Disagree. If this were a playoff series, this would have been that awkward game 1 before a back door sweep.

It happens.

Agree that a stud draft pick would be great for this team. But I'm not convinced the team is 1 or 2 pieces away from contending for a championship. If so, we should be all in on Stamkos.

I do get your optimism and I sometimes feel that way, but I worry about our complementary pieces. We badly need some youngsters to step up and outplay the vets.

CLB had one guy high to block, and the other 4 collapse to the net the better part of 2 periods. Flames a)couldn't get around that and then b) get a scramble bounce to go in.

The problem is, only the top line plus, Brodie, Gio and Bennett, had any clue or notion or hockey sense, and the skill, to actually try something to get around that CLB strategy.

Backlund, Colborne, Jooris, all take perimeter shots, and all high shots, uselessly, and play too much around the edges, which is what CLB wanted. Backlund on his last shift thankfully fired one 15 feet to high from an impossible angle; thankfully because it meant he could get changed off. Ferland with a lot of ice but not a lot of usefullness, same with Frolik (who's usually dependable).

Hamilton and Russel too, couldn't get the puck past that lone defender. And they did, they too shot high. They look dumbfounded.

The top line and the defenders, skated around the first wave of guys, and carried the puck down low, not took the first available shot.

I am sure the effort and maybe some bounces will go ok vs Van. tomorrow. Hartley may chew them out; whether his message holds much weight anymore is also TBD.

Bottom line is that for the Flames to get to the next level, they need to find the proper linemates for Bennett so that the Flames have two good lines up front, and games like this aren't even close.

In terms of forwards we have one line and Bennett that threatens and that is literally it. And that one line is really Johnny and Monahan and whoever happens to be the third. Stajan, Jones, Colborne, Backlund, Jooris, Bouma, etc. they're all just kind of there. So uninspiring. We need another skilled forward desperately.

Gaudreau-Bennett-????
????-Monahan-Frolik
Ferland-Backlund-????
Bouma-Stajan/Grant/Arnold-Jooris/Hathaway

Giordano-Brodie
????-Hamilton
Russell/Smid-Engelland

????

Only a few major pieces away IMO. Granlund, Jankowski, Poirier, Klimchuk, Kylington, Hickey, Andersson, etc in the pipeline. The draft pick this year should get us a 1st line forward or top 3 d-man solving one of the ????s long term. Another could be solved internally as well. Meaning Treliving needs to add one more major piece, either a top 2 line forward or top 4 defenseman and then solve the goalie problem.

Everything is on track IMO. The high pick this year gets us one more key piece. Treliving needs to work his trade mojo (Hamilton) or UFA mojo (Frolik) to get us one more piece this offeason.

Goaltending is the real wildcard. I'm sure it's causing a lot of debate for our scouts and management.

I tried to find a gif of how bad I think Bob Hartley is at his job but I couldn't find one that summed up his pathetic attempt at coaching an NHL team so this is about as close it gets.... Dog still does a better job to be honest....
