He was on for the PP, which continues to baffle me.

Flames don't deserve to be in the playoff hunt with such terrible special teams. Something needs to change in coaching because they are a mess whenever it's not even strength

I would really like to see our PP go with one defenceman and four forwards (one and three in OT PP). Wideman is not capable of playing on the PP anymore. Sounds cliché but really, someone on the coaching staff needs to see this. And if the one defenceman plan is a no, then for God's sake, just keep Wideman stapled to the bench

hopefully that win costs the Oilers a draft pick position or two

Missed the first and second, watched third and OT, though Flames were generally the better team, certainly had more "better" chances, and definitely in OT.
Gotta capitalize on the PP. Should simply not put the extra player on the ice for the OT PP. or just leave them in the defensive zone.

The powerplay plan cant be Wideman bombs from the point unless theres traffic and screening in front of the net. A 4 on 3 doesnt lend itself to parking a guy in front. Better to have more movement, passing, give and go, getting the defenders to over commit and exploiting the open ice. None of that is Widemans forte.

The whole damned team stands around on the PP. No cycling the puck or players moving around, just a bunch of pylons standing around waiting for a pass.

Good play, bad result. Got the lead and then played good defense the rest of the way. PP is the difference maker against the Flames here.
Gaudreau isn't quite feeling it right now. He still looks good compared to most but it isn't working out and you can see him fighting it.
Monshan had a strong game. Just a bit unlucky with his production. Just keep working hard like Bennett did and good things will come in big ways.
I don't like Mason Raymond. I feel Colborne would have been a better option against the Oilers... well, always. Colborne isn't having a great year but he does a good job of holding onto the puck and that'a a good thing against a team built of small talented forwards. But Raymond just didn't make good decisions.
I'm so hot and cold with Wideman. One second he makes a great play to get the puck out or keep the puck in, but then he just bobbles the puck the next time it comes to him. Sometimes he bobbles it and gets lucky. His veteran leadership is valuable on this young team but his play is not like last year.
Surprised with Hillers performance tonight. Good to see both goaltendera have put the start of year behind them.

I did catch a bit of the first--saw the Bennett goal, but couldn't look away from the NFL game and figured the Flames were just going to run up the score.
Not quite.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Silver lining I suppose, Flames at least get a point on a weekend that saw Arizona and Minnesota get nothing.

If this is the new B.O.A colour me. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.................
Flames fell asleep while in the drivers seat after the first.
The only thing I leatned from this game we didn't already know from boyh teams is Kassian is legitimately scared of guys like Bollig. After Bollig and Ferland trolled him for a period he smartened up right away
Or I offer this alternative.
Barney: "Sorry Homer, but I'm a coward now... like all recovering alcoholics."

Flames are honestly almost done...5 points back and teams in between
with all the three point games coming up and really, they just aren't that good

The Flames are stuck in the middle.
They are 5 points behind SJ for the last playoff spot. They are 5 points ahead of Columbus for dead last.
I wish they would find some consistency and either win or lose repeatedly to inch closer in either direction. The last thing I want is the Flames to miss the playoffs by a couple points and miss out on one of the better guys in the draft because they win one lose one win one lose one.

True. Problem is he was also getting physically overpowered worse than any other Flame tonight anytime he looked like he might get the puck.

Yes Bennett and Wideman played on OT PP but not on 3-on-3 OT as one poster asking why Sam never plays in OT and one responded that Hartley would rather use Wideman instead.

The Jack Adams isn't about who is the best coach. Usually it goes to whomever does the best turd polish.
|
Pfff. Include Hartley, and only 2 of the past 7 Adams winners have been fired.

Flames OT strategy is 2D and 1F
has worked pretty well so far so Wideman-Bennett is not really up for debate
Running Gio, Brodie, Russell, Hamilton though makes sense to me.
