I had the pleasure of meeting Robyn and his wife after his last year in Calgary. When the season was over, before the trade. I checked them in for a flight to go see his brother play in Europe.
The whole family was very humble. I wished him luck and was very disappointed when he was traded.
What some people forget is that as mean as he was on the ice, he is truly a gentle giant in person. Great with his kids too.
I think the Regehr trade was a big part of Feaster's dismissal. The return was horrible. The Flames have been looking for a top 4 defenseman with his skill set since he left. Very hard to find.

I don't think that was the reason for Feaster's dismissal from the Flames. Feaster was hired to clean up Sutter's contract mess. There were so many things wrong with the players contracts that when Sutter stepped down (fired), something had to be done and Feaster listened wanted. Regehr was pretty much the beginning of that first step - to break down a typical Sutter team and getting rid of the bad contracts like Kotalik. The side effect was that it made the team small and soft, but competitive enough to almost go to the basement. Feaster's got the balls to do what no Flames GM had done before and you have to give him props to listen to what the fans wanted. His main cause for dismissal is basically that his vision for a speed and skilled team doesn't match the vision of Burke who, like most GM's, want size and grit.
When Reggie left, the Flames back end got super soft with the likes of JBo and Butler - holy Jeezus!. That was a sad day when you see guys like Kane and Hemsky wonder into the Flames zone untouched and dancing around like tinker bell when these players should be punished.
Now, if Feaster could've picked up Meyers from Buffalo instead getting Butler in that Regehr trade ...

I get that.
But you don't just ask a career flame to waive a NMC for the sake of getting rid of a spare part.
To add, buffalo sent that spare part to Europe and paid 0$ in cap, and got Regehr for butler and Byron.
Regehr should have stayed in Calgary. If he had to be traded because he was part of the problem (wrong, because he wasn't Nd won a cup in LA), we should have got a huge return(at least 2 2nd rounders that the Sabres got for trading him as a rental).
With a full year left on his contract (and I know for a fact he was willing to retire as a Flame, even if his contract was $1 per year), he should have been worth at least a 1st.
He said himself, that he didn't want to go, but if management felt he would have helped the franchise by leaving, he would do what was best.
Major Fail. For the record I have been a Feaster's supporter. But that trade was a fail.

Not true. Feaster traded Regehr so he'd have room to sign Brad Richards. Now that would have solved our so called contract mess.

All to free up cap space to TRY to sign Brad Richards. I know some people liked Feaster but I personally think he was the second worst GM in team history after you-know-who.

Yup, he needed cap space, and fast, because he was given the permission to be taking a run at (his money shot) Richards a few days later.
So he took the first return that he got get his grubby hands on and had to then push hard on Regher to waive to go to Buffalo, when Regher didn't want to go there. Just terrible.
