Feel bad for Gio! Can you imagine having a Norris year and then you get injured? Sucks.
I feel bad for me too. Wanted to watch him in the playoffs. I ain't giving up hope yet though. We're third in the Pacific.

Instead he sits on his hands and allows two of our assets to walk for futures, while leaving this inexperienced group to fend for itself.
People are going to disagree with my line of thinking, but this is where I stand. Playoffs, the chance to compete, that's what you play for, it's what these fans need and deserve. And we had an opportunity with assets and depth we have. But Brad and co threw up the white flag today by making the team, as is, limp on sans Giordano and Glencross.

And this is why Canadian teams haven't won the cup in 20 years.

I sure hope I'm wrong, but I think it's more likely this is where we realize just how much Brodie is being propped up by Gio (for now). This isn't meant to be a critique of Brodie, love the player, love the extension, love that I think he'll be a #1 or at least top notch #2 some day. But I think playing with Gio actually is making us feel he's further along in his development path then he actually is, but I'm super hoping I'm wrong on this one!
This is really too bad for the team and Gio, but maybe they will just role with this adversity.

Horrible news. Bad news for Gio, and Flames chances since they didn't fill the D void for a chance at the playoffs.
Still outside chance but the task just got really tough to accomplish now.

Not only sucks for our team but for Gio being a Norris trophy finalist most likely.

This explains why the team did not go out an get a rental. With only depth guys like Diaz and Ramo UFA after this season (besides the traded Glencross) and Baertschi moved as a disgruntled upcoming RFA, clear that the team will go play out the string, try to make playoffs, and if not, can be evaluated at the draft.
Wishing Giordano a speedy recovery!

I've had this injury... It is not fun.... Takes a long time to recover and the arm is never really the same. Hopefully he's fine by October.

#### the Hockey Gods.
We play our asses off, avoid tanking and then for all of our troubles, we lose our most important player during the final play off push. Now, in the deepest draft in recent memory, with 2 generational talents available, we will have a middling pick.
I feel like whining today.

I sure am glad your not the GM. Brad didn't panic. He gave every guy in that room a chance to finish something they started as a team. Every one of those guys has a chance to step up. This is where you really see who steps up and who folds. Kris Russell come on down. He's going to turn some heads and show that team what stepping up means.

Oh man!!
I was really hoping it would only be a few weeks.
Devastating blow for him, the team and our playoff hopes. He's not only a defenceman but basically a forward on this team too.

Well if the playoffs weren't already looking difficult this puts an exclamation on it. On the positive side this is the opportunity for others to rise to the occasion so I'm optimistic that some of the forwards especially can pick up their game in both ends of the ice.
The really odd thing was just how weird that collision was at the end of the game. Just a freak thing that may have brought down a very solid season for this team.

What a bunch of pessimists on here!! Geez. This is very unfortunate news...fact. But it is also a great opportunity for the young guys to play in a hard situation under pressure for a goal...making playoffs. If they make it...great. If we don't make it, then at least they have a notch in the belt for what it takes (took) to compete. Time to step up guys, you got this.

Haha. I was actually told a tear at the elbow was pretty rare. I assume that is Gio's injury as well. A tear at the shoulder is more common but less likely to be repaired surgically, but that probably doesn't apply to a pro athlete.
