Impressed with the device but they certainly alienated any Nexus fans with this announcement. 6" phone, extreme specs which are pushing the price point up, couple with some additional markup as a premium device.
They could have had a OnePlus One clone and been more attractive. Given the cost, I think I'll still stick with the Note 4.

Well you'd imagine the price on a contract will be around $100 for 2 years.
Basically what the LG G3 costs.
Amazing specs though. For those of us that still do contracts, it won't be that bad.

I would think the biggest base of Nexus users are off-contract types though.
Interesting to see how this goes, it just means that in order to get penetration now they will have to rely on carriers and contracts.
Something that they were able to avoid in the past.

I was having a little buyers remorse (because of the Nexus announcement coming today) after ordering my OPO last night. After seeing the price point for this device, I couldn't be happier with my purchase

LG G3 outright is about $600. Typical subsidizing cost for devices starts at about $480. You're looking at $270, maybe even $300 in Canada for just the 32GB Nexus 6 when signing a 2 year contract.
A hard purchase to make when there will be those who would rather save a little and get the Galaxy S5, outright buyers, and trying to compete overall with all the other Android handsets (AKA Samsung and co.)
Edit: I predict a lack of overall popularity surrounding the phone and by Christmas to be heavily discounted by the carriers on their upfront contract price.

The devices look really nice, I'm glad they are trying to go for a more premium feel. Very interested to see some hands on impressions.

Google is obviously moving away from off-contract pricing.
Unless they think people will still outright buy the phone for that price.

Yeah, seems like an odd strategy to me. People barely bought Nexus devices when they were $400, I'm not sure they're going to really see a lot of business when they're doubling the price.

Yeah, upset about the price point. Just means I'll go back to upgrading my device once every 2 years instead of on a yearly basis like I've been doing with Nexus devices. I'm only 4 months into my Nexus 5 so this just means I certainly won't be getting it anytime soon. Too bad because I really wanted a gigantic phone, not at 700+ bucks and certainly not after I recently spent 400 on my N5.

What's interesting from that Nexus link, is the seemed continuation of the Nexus 5. In previous years older model phones/tablets were removed. The Nexus 5 has a link at the top right along with all the three new devices.
Good move IMO, I would have loved to see a refreshed model at the current price point but keeping the Nexus 5 around for those who want a phone at that price is a good move.

Yeah, that's certainly a possibility.
Though there are a couple signs the Nexus 5 might stick. The Nexus 7 and 10 aren't listed... and the Nexus 5 has a whole new page all the features etc are Android 5.0 focused.
We'll see.

Nah they built a whole new page touting Lollipop for the 5 too, (and maybe some new cases). Looks like it is here to say.
