Man what a waste. Why call him up to play with Westgarth?

no big deal.
haha....you know it's going to be a "big deal". Certain posters just haven't seen it yet.

Not surprised with this seems like every other rookie on our team he is going to have to start at the bottom and work his way up

If they want Granlund to play center, and IMO it makes sense to play him there if he has been playing center all season in Abbotsford, which center do you move down the depth chart to the fourth line?

Backlund and Stajan were both playing great before the Olympic break, and Monahan is still his same steady self.

It is the kids first taste of NHL action, let him get his feet wet a little bit before just throwing him in the fire.

Granlund will move up the depth chart faster than most other guys IMO. Just get him on the ice. Hartley will see what all the fuss is about. If not already. The extra practices will help Granlund as well getting up to speed with the coaches having time to help him adjust. I cannot imgine that it would take long for him to swap Granlund and Galiardi.
I am hoping he gets to play against the Kings.

I hope he works hard and makes an impression. Maybe they can sneak him in on the second power play unit so we can see that quick release.

Glencross and McGrattan skated this morning. McGrattan not ruled out for Thursday night. Ramo still not back on the ice. #Flames
Could be in on Thursday

LA is a big physical team. No harm in having a bruiser on the line to provide some rookie protection.

I assume Gallidari is holding the spot reserved for Stempniak or Glencross?

If neither guy is good to go Thursday it might make sense to bump Cammy up with Backs and Hudler, move Granlund to the Monahan line and if Grats is good have Byron center the goon line?

I would want a big man watching over Grandlund and Byron as well so they can do their thing. Westgarth can physically open things up for those two as well as make sure nobody takes any liberties with the two smaller, younger, offensive upstarts.

I can't understand what's surprising about him being on the 4th line, who was he going to replace up higher if he's staying a center.

4th line is great because they can make sure he's responsible during the game without putting too much pressure on him, just because he doesn't score a goal on the 4th line in his first few games doesn't mean the coaches just don't see his potential.

Not that I recall. I know Byron played with Ferland and Nemisz for alot of his time in Abby.

Considering the Stajan and Monahan lines were lines being used before the break, I think the thought would be "why mess up 3 lines when you can just mess up 1"

Considering this season is long gone and we know that Stajan is what he is, wouldn't it make sense from an asset management standpoint to slot Granlund into Stajan's spot for a few games?

What's the worst that happens at this point.

My thoughts too, and Steinberg agrees

Guessing Galiardi is a placeholder for Stempniak while he's gone. #Flames

Because punishing a player who has done nothing but soldier along for your team would be mental.

Call me crazy but if Stajan has a problem with it he probably shouldn't be playing on the team. I'd hardly call it punishing either....its called seeing what you've got.

But by all means enjoy watching him play with face punchers so Matty's feelings don't get hurt.

Paul Byron is a face puncher? You sure you aren't thinking of Paul Bunyon?

He is skating with those two, will probably start the game with, but it doesn't mean he has to play the whole game on that line. Might get a little PP time, might get a few shifts with some other players, who knows. It is his first time swimming in the big pond, he needs to wade into the water, not jump off the high dive!
