When Jones' plays well he actually is a valuable player. He's just inconsistent - like Tanguay was.

I was impressed with him at the start of the year and recently - if he can be that player more often - not bad.

Either way though a deal involving 4 bad contracts.

Not losing sleep over it because I don't think any of these guys were movable unless it was for other cruddy contracts.
Scuttlebutt was it was mostly a personalities deal. It seemed evident that neither of Sarich or Tanguay wanted to be here - Sarich was pretty outspoken on garbage bag day about how he was used - so moving them was as much a favour to them as it was a way to get a different team chemistry.

Sarich didn't want to be here because he wasn't getting any playing time. I don't blame him for wanting out.

Which was something I never could understand. Both Brent and Hartley didn't use him for some reason. Since they weren't going to use him, best he moves on but SOB isn't nearly as good.

Just so I understand...some people believe that taking a week or 10 days off in the middle of February and travelling to a warm climate when its been a deep freeze in Calgary = not staying in shape?

Just....wow.

Both of them appeared to want to play Smith more, and Brodie went from being an AHL guy to a solid NHLer during that span. Even with team's struggles, hard to justify giving Sarich more time than he got.

Not to mention, these guys get this break once every 4 years, and potentially never again.

Huh? Last I saw NHL players get anywhere from 2-6 months off every year, the Flames being closer to 6 months. And these guys are hard done by by not getting a Mexico vacation in February every year?

And potentially never again? Why, have the Olympics stopped?

If there was ever a first world problems scenario, this would be one of them.

Give your head a shake.

You and a few others were being obnoxious and trying to dictate how a couple elite athletes spend a week off. Gimme a break.

He said this break, not a break.

Potentially never again refers to the thread getting a lot of attention stating that NHLers may not be going back to the Olympics.

So... Give your head a shake.

Sarich was over-matched against certain teams - namely fast ones. So his playing time had to be managed.

Not that SOB is better.

But I didn't have an issue with how Sarich was used.

I doubt the owners care if the players take a vacation...

Big time problems are;

a) Risk of Injury (Player like Pavel Datsyuk is a great example... is he healthy, will he cause further damage to his Knee)

b) Shutting down the league for 2 weeks and the players getting paid during the shutdown

Over-matched? I just never saw it. Despite everyone saying he had poor skills, he always played positionally well, made smart passes, was good on the pinch, and brought a physical aspect that none of our other defenceman had. I imagine you could find sometimes when he got beat outside but even the great skating Brodie gets beat outside sometimes.
To me he was a top six defenceman at least and he's proving it in Colorado.

What's wrong with saying Bouma/Colborne were not going down there to work out? I never said it was a bad idea, I just said they're not going down there for training purposes.

We have every right to dissect everything they do - multi-million dollar athletes will always be subject to that. We don't have a right to say anything? Gimme a break.

It's your right, but that doesn't make it right.

Celebrity culture is the absolute worst. The things people justify simply because these athletes are well known is ridiculous.

They're on vacation. Dissect something hockey related, why don't you?

Alright, saying Bouma/Colborne are going down to Cabos to party is really #### disturbing. Next time I'll suggest they're having tea at a box social which happens to be on a lovely coast of Pacific Mexico. Sounds nicer.

Lol. A thread about NHL players on vacation and I'm not allowed to talk about it in exactly that manner? Sure thing.

The players get nine days off. They're back to practice next week. If they're on vacation, it's a short one.
