I was in Europe last year around this time and was very surprised at how big this tournament was over there. Even in Germany, which isn't a huge hockey country, they had this televised on national TV with many local pubs showing the games live.
It was funny actually when we met random Europeans that found out we were Canadian, they all wanted to talk about the world championships going on. Anyways, this isn't a big deal over here, because it happens at the same time as the NHL playoffs, but this is huge in Europe.

we Austrians actually had a decent start to the game, an early 2-0 lead over the US ... couldn't keep it up though, too bad our defense isn't really good today and our goalie Starkbaum has an absolute stinker of a game. 5-3 US now

Can't wait to see Brodie. I bet he will show great glimpses of offense during the tourney with the larger ice surface. Even if he doesn't do well, all that really matters is that he doesn't get injured.

Some odd line pairings and with Dubnyk in net you can lose anytime but Canada should be good enough to win against mighty Denmark. Although the US didn't exactly have an easy time against powerhouse Austria today.

I don't understand why the Canadians come over to these tournaments and forget how to play. Throwing the puck away for no reason, stupid stretch passes and standing around doing nothing.
I understand the tournament means nothing and don't expect play-off level intensity but not sure why that means stupid passes like Ladd setting up the Danish player for a breakaway passing the puck to nobody without any pressure on him.
Just take the puck, skate around these guys and make the easy pass to the open man.
Canada is dominating and will win easily but I can understand why this tournament isn't popular in Canada watching them play like crap like this.

He seems to get as much ice time as any other defenseman.
Seems like they are rolling all 3 pairings fairly equally and putting Schultz in on PP and the odd ES shift.

I haven't seen him much either. He was on the powerplay for a bit in the third and was on for one shift even strength in which he joined the rush nicely to set up a good scoring chance.
The vets and defensive guys are getting more icetime. Looks like Brodie will be battling Schultz for ice.

Its really simple. They're treating this tournament like shinny hockey. Its like a pro who goes to a beer league game, they're going to do stuff they would never do against other pros because they'd get slaughtered, but they'll try it out.
This is why they havent won it in a while.
That and too many Oilers. You're never going to win with that many Oilers on your team. They're like playing shorthanded. Negative value.

Also, from what I've heard when the tournaments have been here in Helsinki, the NA coaches tend to let a lot of "boys being boys" stuff slide until the real games start.
Part of the attraction of playing in these tournaments I guess.
