No one should be named captain, unless someone steps up and starts to actually lead this team by example. I'm fine with having alternate rotating captains until that happens. Those are incredibly huge shoes to fill.
Wait, why are we even talking about this?? Iggy is still here and will probably re-sign again this summer.
This thread keeps making me think of this for some reason:

I could see this or Gio. I think there was some TSN broadcast where the Flames were having a horrible PP, and Wideman came back to the bench and yelled "What are we doing?" about the lack of communication on the ice.
Iginla's leadership gets questioned all the time on this team. Once you remove him from the equation what's left? God I'm going to be a miserable Flames fan when Iginla is gone.

I wasn't aware the current captaincy was being vacated. Why waste time and energy talking about something that may still be another five years away from happening? I have no idea which players will be on our when Iginla retires, let alone which one of them will be named Captain.
If a new Captain has to be chosen he just better be vocal on the bench, and in the locker room.
Iginla is more of leader than he is given credit for. Funny how outside of Calgary he is respected as a notable leader.
Bouwmeester sit down church mouse. Just keep playing well enough to get a mid 1st round pick for us.
The answer is so difficult because Iggy is impossible to replace. He has it all.
He probably commands the greatest respect around the league among all active captains. I was just looking at the Canucks HF Board and the love for Iggy is incredible. They will never forget the class that was (is) Iggy the night Trevor Linden retired.
