You can't diagnose the infection based on symptoms as MANY types of viral infections have the same "flu-like" symptoms. Going by the symptoms, you could just as easily self-diagnose yourself with HIV infection as you could with influenza.

So im in the middle of the most hellacious bout of flu in my life ( tho the fever has broken i believe)...sounds like im not alone, but i have a terrible stomach ache as well as the other symptoms...is this common with the strain going around?
The "stomach flu" or gastroenteritis is spread by fecal-oral transmission. It sounds like many of you have inadvertently starred in your own version of two girls one cup.
Or, you know, sitting in an ER waiting room full of pukers'll do it as well.
