Calgary could use a specialty or high end grocery store. Loved Dubaji's for their bakery and deli when it was in Northland Mall. Sunterra might be the closest now
Oh man, I'd KILL for a Trader Joe's - I love that place. I've only been in Whole Foods once, so no real opinion of that store. Does Calgary need more high-end stores, though? With Sunterra and a crapload of boutique type food stores (Janice Beaton, Latrewe etc), I think there are enough.

We're pretty much Safeway shoppers with a bit of Co-op thrown in - we like Co-op's prepared meat section better than Safeway. Being downtown, there aren't any Sobeys, Costco or Superstore supermarkets close enough for our everyday shopping. Superstore and Costco make me a bit stabby though, so it's just as well.

I grocery shop at Walmart because it's closest to me. I find that what it lacks in selection it surprisingly makes up for in price and quality - even for produce. It is also nice to be able to pick up almost anything else you may need in a single stop.

For groceries it'll be at Co op or Superstore. Occasionally we will go to Costco about once a month to get the laundry detergent and bulk stuff. Walmart now and then too when they got good deals

Im on a bit of a cycle, the days arent exactly like this however on the first i will go to a walmart super center and then the 15th i go to superstore. I know I could hit both at the same time however that is way to much grocery shopping in one day.
The reason for both places is the selection of things being different at each place. IE bulk products at superstore but prefer the meat and prices at walmart.

Is the Walmart in Airdrie still the only super center in the Calgary area?

The gap between Superstore and the rest of the bunch seem closer than previous comparisons from what I can remember.

Wal-Mart is great for for dry goods, laundry detergent, and any types of health and beauty products. The produce is ok but I don't trust there meat after I had a bad experience.

Costco is great for mostly meat but not chicken. Pork, fish and beef is great there and the obvious case lots of food.

Safeway is the weekly go to since it's all we have in Chestermere, Safeway cycles it's sales so you have to watch flyers. Chicken Breast goes on sale for $8.80/on so roughly $11-$14 for a large package so we buy 2 or 3 and freeze it up.

I ######ing hate Superstore, notoriously dirty and 35 tills with only 4 open at any time.

All and all just look at flyers and stock up when you see a good deal, I like Safeway simply because Im an Airmiles Nazi and have accumulated over 8000 in under 3 years which flys my wife and I both to Vegas for free.

My wife and I will hit the Superstores/Save on/Safeway when we are low and need an all in one shop, but we avoid them as best we can now.

My wife proved to me that overall Walmart is cheaper then anywhere else for dry foods. They totally kick ass for dry foods and cleaners and stuff. They have no rewards system and they rarely have sales and such, but overall if you are buying alot of stuff they will save you money. I've been at other places and the card buyer price is still more expensive for the same stuff at walmart. I'm a very cheap man, and I thought the savings of having a member card would overcome any walmart price, and if your buying even a $100 worth of stuff, it really doesn't. Made a whole list of prices on 2 differn't occasions cause i thought the first time was a fluke... I still was proven wrong and had to eat crow, I hated it.

We go to the local butcher for our meat. And the local stand for our veggies and fruit. The small fruit/veggies stands kick the #### out of the price for the same stuff at most grocery stores. Meat prices tend to be better at the butchers. Seems like whenever the main grocery chains have meat on sale its the absolute crap of the crap for meat.
