Pretty cool thinking about next year’s lineup. I hope Lindholm gets played at center.

Interesting that it's likely each line has at least one new piece. That's overhauling the offense alright!

If Lindholm is the 2 centre I wonder if Jankowski is moved to wing? Can't see him playing on the 4th line.

Powerplay has a lot more weapons to work with now too. Peters had already mentioned using Ryan and Czarnik on it. Neal will definitely be there. Hanifin as well.

I am excite.

I think with Winnipeg losing out on Stastny it might make sense for them to bring back Frolik on a manageable contract for 2 more years. Cost wouldn’t be crazy; probably a 3rd rounder or a prospect like Petan. Brouwer is the harder move...

Rather undeniable that the team is much better than last year. And the team didn’t rip part future drafts to do it.

Terrific lineup. BT has his team now thanks to shrewd salary/cap management.

Would like some discussion on cap management now going forward for next 12-14 months.

12.8 million left for 2F, 2D, 1G this year.

Lindholm will be about 5 million
Janko about 1.8 million.
Rittich about 1 million.
Kulak about 1 million.

Leaving 4 mllion on table for Hanifan not including any bonuses and overages that will occur with Tkachuk.

Hanifan must be a bridge deal after discussions with agent. Makes sense since 21. Leaving some for bonuses so no overages next year when Tkachuk must be signed.

Brouwer buyout (3 million), Smith paycut (1-2 million), cap increase (1-2 million) should give us enough cash for Tkachuk. But wont be able to manage a Bennett breakout year. Suspect someone will go from D corp.

Brouwer should be kept for this season to see if he meshes with any of the new forward corps/coach. If not, sure, buy him out, but I keep him at 4RW for now.

I keep Brouwer away from this forward mix; it’s time to move on

We have seen exactly what kind of player Troy Brouwer is. He kills any line he's on in almost miraculous ways, and that isn't a coaching issue. He needs to go.

The Flames now have 16 forwards I can see fighting for a position: Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, Neal, Lindholm, Bennett, Jankowski, Mangiapane, Foo, Dube, Czarnik, Brouwer, Lazar, Backlund, Frolik, Ryan.

I still want them to sign Shore (Goals above replacement (GAR): 46). I doubt it happens. But in my ideal world it would because he is 25 years old and would come cheap and play great defence. According to goals above replacement, he is 73rd percentile in terms of 5v5 defence and he could be had for under a million. That’s value. He would provide excellent depth at centre or LW if someone got injured.

So, for me, that would mean excising 3 forwards from the final 14. For me, those would be: Brouwer (GAR: 2), Lazar (GAR: 6) and Dube (a year in the AHL is fine and may be helpful).

In my opinion, my favourite lineup would then be:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm
Bennett - Ryan - Frolik
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Czarnik
- Shore - Foo

For the defencemen, I still see Stone (GAR: 2 and labelled as a struggling depth defenceman by Rob Vollman) getting traded because the Flames have 5 defencemen that will play the right side. Of course, this requires someone being willing to take him. I wouldn’t but maybe someone will. This would free up 2.7M in cap space (3.5M for Stone to 800K for Prout) to sign Lindholm and Hanifin to longer term deals which often pays big dividends down the road.

Giordano - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kulak - Andersson
- Prout

It's absolutely nutty trying to figure out lines. There is so many interchangeable pieces, depth and versatile guys.

Wow.

Peters likes to juggle lines regularly as well, so it probably doesn't matter. Lots of great pieces to work with is the takeaway.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Neal
Tkachuk - Backlund - Lindholm
Bennett - Jankowski - Foo
Dube - Ryan - Frolik

Czarnik - Brouwer

Dube Foo and Czarnik will likely split two spots between the three of them. If Dube doesnt have another great camp like last year Mangiapane will be in that spot. I think that Lazar and Hathaway won't be signed. Brouwer will get bought out next year. This year he will be a bottom 6 injury replacement.

Appreciate that you understand that Frolik is a drag on the Flames roster.

Frolik has negative value. Your moving him to Winnipeg highlights this.

Is he an upgrade on Tanev and or Roslovic?

Winnipeg is in a tighter cap situation than Calgary.

Is there another buyout window through the summer or before season starts?

The Flames have the pieces at offense and defense to be competitive now. The two biggest question marks are whether Peters can get the most out of the roster and whether the goalies can stay healthy and stay solid. I can't wait to see a healthy Smith in the playoffs should it happen.

I think Czarnik will do better than the 4th line. I presumed he was actually going to start on the top line before the Neal signing.

He's going to impress.
