You think we are going to find a cheap 3rd line C better than Sean Monahan? I highly doubt that.

4th period says the Flames are one of the teams with interest in Braun

https://www.thefourthperiod.com/feb-...0j_RVo.twitter

Quote:
Several contending teams are believed to have some level of interest in Braun, including the Calgary Flames, Boston Bruins, Nashville Predators and Toronto Maple Leafs – though with the Leafs acquiring Ilya Lyubushkin from the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday, they might now be out of the mix.

Braun is ok-can do a little bit of everything, can be a shutdown guy, but he's 35 and I can't see him usurping anybody's spot in the lineup. I guess he'd be a pure rental, as he's UFA.

Braun has the ninth-most total defensive goals above replacement (GAR) in the NHL this year. He'd likely be a significant upgrade on Gudbranson.

Wonder if Edmonton claims. Had a tough season with injuries and is better than Koskinen.

I am very skeptical that Hutton is actually better than Koskinen.

Better career numbers on equally bad teams.

This so comical! Carter Hutton? Mike Smith? Mikko Koskinen?

Hamburgler got a win for Montreal today!

Can they put the Holland salary on LTIR?

Yeah, but Hutton is now 36, has missed multiple months to injury, and has a .741 save percentage this year. He's definitely not the guy he once was in St Louis and Nashville.

In 100 minutes... Not really a good use of statistics.

He had an .886 in 13 games last year and an .898 in 31 before that.

Playing for Buffalo.

He's absolutely worth a waiver claim for Edmonton with a higher ceiling than Koskinen.

He's one of the oldest goalies in the league coming off four months on the shelf. That's gonna be a really tough adjustment.

Calling him an upgrade over Koskinen just seems like a massive assumption. I think Hutton will need some time in the AHL just to get back into game shape. Throwing him into the fire behind that Oilers defence seems ill-advised.

I don't really understand this metric. Does it mean anything that he only has 4 goals and 13 points, yet he is ranked that high in GAR?

I looked up GAR, but didn't understand exactly what in means.

So I meant just his defensive GAR, not his total GAR.

GAR is measured in six different categories — total defensive GAR combines the shorthanded defensive and even-strength defensive GAR categories.

GAR is basically an aggregate of a player's expected goals percentage, goal differential, shot attempt differential ... a bunch of things like that all expressed in a single figure. The six categories are:

Even-strength offence
Even-strength defence
PP offence
SH defence
Penalties taken
Penalties drawn

Braun's offensive underlyings are not very good but they're outweighed significantly by his excellent defensive results. Flyers give up very little with him on the ice.

He's kinda like a more refined right-handed Zadorov.

I can see the Oilers picking up Jon Gillies.

They aren’t really looking for an upgrade on Gudbranson necessarily. They likely feel a need for an experienced 7-8 guy as insurance along with Stone.

Thus, if there’s a bidding war, I doubt they get him. You don’t want to spend that much for an insurance rental.
