Respect for Munich.
As far as Stevie, of course he's not playing for England. He's not English, he's Scouse. :P.

As for Gerrard not playing for England, I dont blame him. Everytime he plays for England he gets injured. Its a friendly, nobody cares.
Besides, it was a slap in the face that they took the Captaincy away from him and gave it to Rio.
Some interesting news:
Quote:
Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has claimed referee Phil Dowd used unacceptable language when pressed for an explanation for Newcastle's controversial penalty award on Saturday.
Sagna, referring to the penalty award, told The Sun: "I asked him for an explanation and he was pretty hard on me. I won't repeat what words he came out with but they should never come from a referee."
|

I cant believe that. Hes got 10 guys huddled around screaming at him and hes not allowed to tell them to #### off? Nonsense. The standard that they're asking of the referees is inhuman.

Being polite only takes a second.

hard for the refs to give any politeness to arsenal after Cesc (aka Alex Burrows) yelling loud enough for everyone to hear that they are being paid to make calls against Arsenal

Seems like refs are starting to become ######bags in every sport. Cut the ego out and do the job. It's the nature of the job that they are going to get cursed at, especially with the amount they #### up. Any official who can't take being yelled or cursed at, or curses back, should find a new profession.
All my opinion of course. And yes, I've been a ref in the past (hockey not soccer) and never once given an unsportsmanlike penalty for anything a player has said to me.

Why? Every star player on England is a scumbag off the field and/or not much a leader on a field. Rio, Gerrard, Rooney, Terry, Cole are all equally #### for the role.

I'm not concerned about any of that, when he was England's Captain they actually played well and he was stellar.
I'm not concerned either way, as a German supporter they can name whoever they like as Captain, I just dont see why Stevie should be busting his balls for England friendlies.
Considering England is becoming ancient, Capello should be using Friendlies to determine which young players he can turn to and trust. There should be barely a veteran present.
And Rio is going to be the next Gary Neville, spending more time in the medical room than on the pitch.

My comments should have been taken as seriously as Sagna's. Do you honestly believe something uncommon and controversial was uttered on Tuesday or Saturday?

This, no one older than 25 should sniff the field in this friendly, they are going to qualify for Euro 2012, the group is filled with pants teams
put out a team based around Wilshere, Adam Johnson etc.

I think the whole thing about Cesc's blowup after the Everton game may have subconsciously pissed off every ref in the league and a 50/50 call maybe turned in to an Arsenal foul

No conspiracy to me, Dowd was horrid and that is it. Frustrating game, even more knowing that Sam the Eagle's squad got the 3 points on United.

If you dont use friendlies to help determine team selections then when are you going to do it? Now is as good a time as any.

But Moyes said: "Cesc questioned Everton's integrity by suggesting we had possibly given money to the ref.
"That's why I felt if I or any player had said that, I think it would have warranted a sending off."

Cesc Fabregas launched a furious verbal attack on the match officials in the tunnel during Arsenal's 2-1 win over Everton on Tuesday, allegedly calling their integrity into question.
Everton manager David Moyes refused to reveal what the Arsenal captain said as the players left the pitch at half-time, only saying Fabregas would have been sent off had he made the comments on the pitch.
However, it is alleged the Spaniard shouted in the direction of the officials: 'How much have you been paid?' He then allegedly accused an opponent of cheating.

The Everton manager, though, was adamant about his version of events: "I know what was said. I was there when it was said and we have it." Regarding his supposed breaking of a code of silence, Moyes argued that the greater crime was Fabregas's alleged impugning of the officials' motives at half-time.
"Arsčne said there was an unwritten rule that you don't repeat anything said in the tunnel, but it was his player who broke the unwritten rule. He questioned Everton Football Club that we were paying the officials and in doing this, he also questioned the officials, that they maybe in turn were taking money. I felt it was out of order and I felt he deserved to be sent off."

It's not the first time it's been said to an official and wont be the last. In fact I would bet an Everton player has accused an official of that very thing before. Moyes should stop being so sensitive about it and move on.

Its just gamesmanship, Moyes is trying to gain an advantage in any possible way. Get Fabregas thrown out for a comment to the officials would be ahuge bonus to Everton's chances in that match.

I don't see Moyes lying, and Fabregas does have a temper
he's not the first player to say it, and he won't be the last
I wasn't trying to rip Fabregas for it, just saying that I am guessing refs talk, and if he questioned their morality for lack of a better word I think subconsciously they might not get a call or two

Oh, Moyes isnt lying, I have no doubt that Fabregas said it. Hes just trying to make something of it so they have a chance against a ten man Arsenal to try and steal a point or two.
But you're right, players carry reputations, its part of the game.

You're actually the second person I've heard mention this. If it is true, hopefully it'll be forgotten rather quickly. Although poor reffing alone did not cause the implosion over the weekend, I don't want to see if it could...

Considering he made his comments after the match I believe it was simply a case of a manager shielding his squad.

Oh, I thought it was in reference to when the linesman allowed that Saha goal. I mean, that really did look like the linesman took a payoff. That was such a brutal call, many a coolheaded player would have lost his head over that one.

ya some guys certainly get a label with refs in different areas
someone like Ronaldo is less likely to get a call because he is a known diver
someone like Scholes gets a yellow on almost every tackle because it's well known he doesn't know how to tackle clean
certain guys you can tell the refs just don't like, Robbie Savage comes first to mind, and if its a 50/50 call they almost never get it

Fabregas was angry at the Saha goal, which he should have been it was possibly one of the worst goals allowed I have ever seen, and Moyes said after the game Fabregas should have been sent off at HT and the media pressed and the reason came out
