This is the best way to look at it anyway, as even if the flames finish last picking 3OA is still the most likely outcome

If there isn’t much separation between the 1st and 3rd ranked prospects in this draft, the Flames will get a great player no matter what.

USA Today list has McKenna down to 3rd.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...a/87559993007/

1. Frolunda (Sweden) left wing Ivar Stenberg
2. Muskegon (USHL) center Tynan Lawrence
3. Penn State (NCAA) left wing Gavin McKenna
4. North Dakota (NCAA) defenseman Keaton Verhoeff
5. Spokane (WHL) right wing Mathis Preston
6. Windsor (OHL) left wing Ethan Belchetz
7. Djurgarden (Sweden) center Viggo Bjorck
8. Jukurit (Finland) defenseman Alberts Smits
9. Sault Ste. Marie (OHL) defenseman Chase Reid
10. Blainville-Boisbriand (QMJHL) defenseman Xavier Villeneuve

Not sure I have seen Preston ranked that high.
Lawrence has to be at second because of the premium placed on the center ice position.

Royston has 6 points in 11 games since going to Owen Sound…

I guess you never know.

By all accounts, the real lists of individual NHL teams are just as divergent.

That's fine, all more of a reason to finish last. Let the 1/2 picks fumble McKenna. We'll get someone good regardless at 3 (assuming our lottery luck dropping us).

Lawrence didn't look quite right the first time he came back in October, but he's played three games in November in his second comeback and scored seven points (also averaging 7 shots on goal per game in those three games lol).

With that being said, two of his three goals in his last game were empty netters. But he still had a goal and an assist with nine (!!!) shots on goal otherwise.

Kinda wish I hadn't missed that one lol.

There's really no point in losing sleep or getting overly invested in any of this until the season is over and the draft lottery complete. Then the debates and hand-wringing can begin.

what if McKenna is a slightly bigger and better Johnny, wouldn't that be good enough?

Whether the list is right or wrong, considering the seasons McKenna and Stenberg are respectively having, I don't think it should be a surprise that one is rising and one is falling. Stenberg sitting where he is in the SHL at his age is pretty impressive;

SHL Scoring leaders

11th in scoring in the league while leading his team in points.

Also, he's 18. While all the other top scorers are 24-35.

Yeah, same here. I either have really bad luck with the RNG or something is off. Ran it 30 times to get a decent sample size and the Flames only won 3 times. The Oilers won it 5 times.

Malhotra rules. It's gotten to the point that I've stopped watching him because I was getting too hyped lol.

And by all accounts he has a non-stop motor and plays like his hair is on fire. I’ll take a high-skilled player with that profile over one who is a notch higher in skill but doesn’t have any jump in his game unless the pick is on his stick.
