He might get some sacks in New york because everyone will be concentrating on there better players. The dolphins D wasn't that good last year, we need to get younger and thats what we are trying to do first.

The Fins are still very interested in Taylor but will not make any formal offers until after the draft. I can't stand it because 1) it is the Jets and 2) JT has said numerous times how much he hates that franchise but I guess money talks.

This just came across my twitter feed:
The Jets have sent a 5th round pick to the Steelers for Santonio Holmes.

Awesome, another potential Marshall suitor fills their need elsewhere.
I really think the Broncos will end up extending him.

Yeah, I just saw the Holmes trade on NFL.com. I'm not surprised given the off field issues he has had, and the Steelers wanting to show the team they're serious about their players maintaining a good image off the field.
I heard that the DA in Georgia is supposed to announce on Monday if there will be any charges of assault against Ben Roethlisberger, and it was reproted on ESPN that there won't be any.

You still have to figure he's got to be getting close to strike 3 with the Steelers after these charges, the last ones, the motorcycle thing etc.
If PIT are shipping out a guy like Holmes after his problems, should be sending a message that no matter the talent, you screw up. Although not formally charged, I don't think his alibi was he was singing in the church choir any of these incidents, and how key evidence suddenly doesn't exsist etc etc means that there are other factors at play here...factors that may not like covering for him time and time again.
Toss in another season or so out of the playoffs and another incident and it may be time to "move on" from Pitt.

Even with all the troubles, I am surprised it's only a 5th in return. Must have wanted to cut ties with Holmes pretty bad in Pitt.

I don't know, QB is such a tough position to fill and Roethlisberger with all his character flaws plays that position pretty well. It wasn't his fault that their special teams allowe TD's against for 5 straight games, and that their secondary without Polamalu couldn't create any turn overs. I've heard rumblings that the Steelers could be the team to take a chance on Tim Teebow for his high character and as a back up plan in case they need to jetison Ben.
But even the mighty Steelers and their morals know that the fans want a winning team, and in todays NFL more than ever you do need good play from your QB if you want to win. The Steelers are going to be hard pressed to match the play they get from Ben, let alone find someone to do it better. So I think they'll scold him to the hills, but it will be all talk.

Receiver isn't a particularly deep position in this draft either. So to get a guy who can play like Holmes can on field for a 5th is a good gamble for the Jets. I can think of a few teams cough Miami cough, where Holmes would become their number one guy and I think they could have given a third to get him.

I'm wondering if Goodell has a little meeting with Roethlisberger for this. He's suspended other players for incidents like this, whether there have been charges or not.

Roger will be having a chat with Ben and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a 1 or 2 game suspension. Any player who finds himself in the National media in a negative light does tend to end up suspended.

I doubt the NFL will suspend BEN.
More than likely like Peter King theorized, the Steelers will suspend him 1 or 2 games.

Holmes is in his last year of his contract - the Steelers didn't want to pay him (being a 1st round pick with a stupid contract like them all). That's why they only got a 5th for him.
Also he will be missing the first 4 games probably so with that very pricey contract and only getting 12 games out of him - it is not really worth it.

Not that engaging of a conversation I know. Just think its neat that us fans can chat with our sports heros, although briefly, when we live thousands of miles apart.

Its an uncapped year. Getting a former superbowl mvp who is 26 and coming off a 1300 yrd season for 12 games and maybe more for a 5th round pick. how is that not really worth it.

Well if Holmes has anymore off field issues, there is talk that teams with these known problem players could start losing draft picks. But if they can keep him inline than it's a pretty good pickup.
There was a lot of talk that the Jets would likely end up looking at Dez Bryant. So by picking up Holmes they now could pass on Bryant in the first round and try to address their receiving woes later in the draft. Which if they have Holmes, and Bryant aren't really what you could call woes.
