A good article discusing the IOC prez's public scolding of Usain Bolt.

Boy...........and how.

Just now got a couple minutes to watch it.....great stuff for Canada and what redemption for him and burying the ghosts of his past.

Really good to see the Canadian team pulling one another along and piling up medals what seems like daily now.

I read that earlier. Ridiculous criticism by Rogge.

I think he should show more respect for his competitors and shake hands, give a tap on the shoulder to the other ones immediately after the finish and not make gestures like the one he made in the 100 meters.”

Has he not watched the 100 metres in the olympics before? How many people did Carl Lewis, Ben Johnson, Donovan Bailey or Maurice Greene respect right after?

Who carries the flag for Canada at the closing?

I say Simon should do it - his performance lifted the team and country.

That 22 isn't out of the question either. It's a long shot, but it will basically be decided tonight: we need five medals tonight, and we should get two from AVK and Sergerie; we then need three medals from the remaining six competitors. Maybe Hall or one of the other two rowing teams medal, maybe Renaud makes it, or Reed in the 800m, and the relay team has a shot, too: after Jamaica and Trinidad, that final is going to be a six-team race for bronze.

Go Eric Lamaze!

And sorry, but once again, the "give the medal to the horse" crowd is out to lunch. Eric is widely regarded as the best rider in the sport. That's like saying "give the F1 championship to the car". All the horses at the olympics are capable of jumping a 1.60m course. There's a reason the same people are near the top of every competition.

People say that because it is TRUE.

I really hope they bust their asses. That would be the biggest story of the olympic games ahead of Bolt and Phelps.

The only drawback is that those 2 annoying US gymnastic coaches would be right.

Is their an age limit for diving? Those 2 were pretty damn young for the Chinese, like Fotze so eloquently stated earlier.

Really? she was hugging all the american girls when they were done their routines. I guess she is like a nanny then.

Hmmm I think they coached Nadia Comaneci in Montreal and she was only 14 then.

You're right.

Quote:
Nadia Comaneci was 14 when she won her first Olympic gold medal in 1976. Despite Comaneci’s stardom, the sport was criticized and sometimes even athletes under 14 were given exemptions to compete.

“There was quite a bit of media attention, especially in Europe, about these young children comparing them to kids that used to work in the coal mines in the 18th and 19th century,” said Hardy Fink, who heads the education program for world governing body.

FIG raised the minimum age from 14 to 15 in 1981. In 1997, it went to 16. Boosting the minimum age was supposed to encourage coaches to go easier on younger athletes.

Is it really a sport if a twelve year old can do it better than an adult?

Well great news about Lamaze! a comeback of sorts on his part. We got our third gold, i'd love to see a total of 5.

Have to say, the underage gymnast thing came out before the games. Rogge basically brushed it off rather then investigating it, not impressed, they are against cheating with drugs but ok with other types of violations. Rogge and the IOC makes the NHL and Gary Bettman look like choirboys.

from what i heard, they are against the age-limit rule themselves (basically saying that if they are good enough to be there, they should) but believe that if these are the rules, they need to be followed. China is good enough to compete without having to cheat.
