Reggie - related to your earlier post in this thread today, any idea what bigger story you were referring to?

The Lawyer who sent that letter to CBC is extremely expensive. I wonder if we're paying for that collectively or if the party is covering it? No way Danielle is paying.

What a curve ball. How could they have seen this bold tactic coming.

CBC’s headline tomorrow should be “We Double Dare You, Dumbass”

But now she can say "it's in the hands of the courts", deflect any further questions, and tell her Smithkovites she's standing up to the CBC. Problem is, they're already voting for her so it doesn't help her in the slightest.
What I'd like to see is the amount of money Alberta taxpayers have had to spend on Jason and Danielle's frivolous court battles, and related scandals-de-jour.

The letter probably cost a few grand but it doesn’t promise any actual further action beyond Smith doing what she is advised to do after the 28th, which will likely be nothing. Given the facts and circumstances any further litigation would almost certainly be proven to be vexatious in nature.

Just an absolute trainwreck and disaster.
Also, I feel gross quoting True North dunderheads, but the letter is public from this account.

Demand letters are cheap. Actually backing that up with a lawsuit and going to court is expensive and time consuming. Especially when you have weak facts like Smith does. (they defamed me by using my own words!)
Doubt we ever see this make it to trial. It's just a political tool to say "take that CBC" which the base will love, and allow her to try to move on from the issue by saying "I'm not speaking about it because of legal action"

Is there any case for CBC to sue Smith for defamation at this point?

I doubt it. My guess is that most of the people who are even remotely buying what Smith is trying to sell already irrationally believed that everything the CBC does is evil. So it would be very hard to prove that her comments had any defamatory effect.

Likely encourages nutbars to attack media, and the CBC in particular, covering the campaign.

It'll come off as dirty and shifty, but she doesn't care. It's less damaging for her to just say "no comment"
