I guess that in your estimation Tkachuk made the right decision to leave a team that is supposedly not a winner. Fine. But we can still draw attention to the fact that ge signed long term to play with a team that has been no better than the Flames over the past decade.

Tkachuk did not leave because he felt the Panthers had a better chance of winning than the Flames. He left because he wanted to live in the States.

Easy for Tkachuk to talk about winning, but the fact is-the Panthers are not as good as they were last year. If you were to plug Tkachuk into the spot where Huby was (with Bennett and Duclair), does he get anywhere near 115pts? Does he carry Benny and Duclair to the same ballpark point totals? I don't see Chucky getting even 90 points this year, even if he plays with Barkov. No doubt Lundell and Knight take a step forward this year, but it won't cover the loss of Huberdeau, or the complete poaching of a top-2 D-man like Weegar (who will not be replaced).

Do thread topics matter to anyone? It’s kind of fun, pick a thread and see what is not being talked about… not actually complaining, the season needs to start.
Tkachuk will put up points. He's a good hockey player.
Sure, but the trade the Panthers made requires him to be more than just a good hockey player that puts up points. They will require him to put up an elite number of points to even have a chance of being better or equal to last season.
They made a trade that suggests they see 100+ points every season, PLUS intangibles that their GM suggested makes him a "unicorn" player. They are banking on a player that Tkachuck cannot possibly be year to year without Gaudreau and Lindholm, imo.

They think they plucked a 100+ point winger from a 300 point line. But that 300 point line was three stars that needed each other to be the 300 point line, and even then they were set to come back down in points if they stayed together this season.
So you combine the fact that Tkachuck/Guadreau/Lindholm would have likely seen a decrease together, but now Tkachuck will most likely be playing with far less talented line mates?

Your posts are excellent; Matthew Tkachuk has never lead his teams in scoring, ever. NHL, OHL, or the USHL. He's a fantastic complimentary player, maybe one of the best and that's not a slight but he's never been "the" guy.
