Wow. It all sounds great if it isn't done in a way that's corny! Last year, I was very worried that the from the knees deke was going to occur way too often. I think they got that right. Let's hope for this, too.

Everything sounds good, at last face-offs will be better than win or lose.

sounds like a lot of the small to medium issues will get worked on. however, i know a lot of people aren't happy without big feature changes. wonder if there will be anything like that? is the chl enough of a splash already to keep people happy you guys think?

Knowing EA, probably.
Last year the "big thing" was the new fighting, which was terrible because everyone just puches, puches, puches, etc. and board play, which almost no one uses online.
Hopefully the new "physics" they are talking about include everything from broken sticks, to realistic hits, the face-offs, etc.
Hopefully they make the goalie more playable. Like you can run into them/knock them over, etc.
Hopefully we hear more at E3 (which is next month).

And what was the first big thing you heard last year? The fighting engine.
I think we've heard or at least got hints to the biggest things for gameplay this year. The physics engine is one of them.

man i hope they put in a stamina bar to prevent that. fighting online is pretty silly. i dont mind fighting the computer as i do use some strategy. however, whenever real people fight each other its no fun.

I don't think so. I've played about 6 of the games from 2000 to 2010 at one point or another...and constantly going for a mean, hard hitting team with little to no skill is almost always the easiest way to win. Heck, my NHL10 team basically uses that as its entire defensive strategy.

The fighting is a joke online, this is a scrap:
Player 1 - punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch
While player 2 is in cover. Then Player 2 comes out of cover, throws 2 punches and Player 1 goes down.
That or both do: punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, punch, until someone hits.
It is just ######ed. I really hope they didn't waste a year developing something else that people will just abuse.

Thank god. Nothing worse than someone who just lays their defender down and mashes the buttons in the crease every single rush you get. Sounds like they're taking care of that.

I can tell you all one thing, after NHL10, I am waiting a few months to see what everyone thinks about 11 before I spend any of my money on it.

I was thinking that too, but I will no doubt be there for the midnight release like last year.
Then play for 4 hours with my friend before going to school.

If the physics engine is well implemented I can't think of anything much bigger than that. It could completely alter the game.
What are the "big feature" things people want? I haven't seen much in terms of realistic wants that I'd consider big features.

Much happier that the early focus seems to be on physics and not fighting. Every time they mentioned it last year I got more and more worried. In the end I loved 2010, but the features they focused heavily on weren't exactly items I would have considered important.

Something I want, and have wanted for years and years now.
NO MORE EFFING PAUSING AND REPLAYS DURING OTP MATCHES.
Not only did they not take them out in 2010, but they ADDED more!!! I can't even skip the three stars now or the final replays.
I swear to god if they add even more in 2011 I will drive down to Vancouver in the summer and b**** slap Littman and the entire executive staff at EA.
They add NOTHING to the game. Keep them for single player, but for online games it totally ruins the fluidity. Games last 15+ minutes longer than they need to because in every game someone ALWAYS watches EVERY CUTSCENE/REPLAY/STAYS IN THE PAUSE MENU FOR 30 SECONDS.

I would like to see a load out screen similar to what you get in...any other online action game out there.
If I am forced to play centre, I would like to be able to choose a 'centre' build, rather than lose 20 of 22 faceoffs because I am a defensive Dman.
Simple, but would make things way more fun.

Since we've had the thing for 4 years now, will the Saddledome scoreboard finally be updated?

I would like it if they gave you and your teammates the option to change positions between periods. That way, if someone is losing all the faceoffs, for instance, they can switch out.

I have a bit of an "olympic" approach to the EA NHL franchise... in that I typically just get the new game every 2nd year. It allows me to see more of a difference in how the game's changed when what I'm used to is 2 years old instead of just 1. Plus I get to play a bit further into my Dynasty / "Be a GM" and also for NHL10 the Be a Player in a few different positions for a few seasons.
So some of this stuff sounds cool, but I don't think that it's going to be enough of a change (and actually changing the physics engine might be pretty buggy) to warrant me getting NHL11.
Bring on "NHL 2012 - Apocalypse!"
