Absinthe.
The real stuff; not any low percentage fake garbage that was passed off as authentic despite having levels as low as 45%.
One reason I like it is because it can take the edge off any week no matter how stressful it may have been.
The other reason I like it is that it takes some gumption to drink an alcohol so notorious that it is banned in several countries.
|
Which of the imported ones do you find are the best? All I can ever find are the czech ones like Hills which taste kinda foul to me, or the Pernod one which tastes, well, a little too much like Pernod. I really like Spanish absinthe with it's slight lemony flavour, but I haven't been able to find any in stores.
What exactly do those store-boughts do to you?
I drank some homemade stuff once, very little of it, and the effects weren't at all like I get from drinking anything else. More like smoking something else which I find to be disgusting, but this absinthe wasn't.

Storebought ones should have similar effects. What you were probably feeling from the homemade one that you had was wormwood, or rather a chemical called thujone that is found in wormwood. Thujone is a neurotoxin, and like Reaper says, has similar effects to THC. The EU has a legal limit of thujone of 10mg/L. The original recipe from the 1700s contained between 30 to 60 mg/L, while apparently some of the absinthe drank by parisian bohemians contained as much as 250mg/L. So a homemade one could have had a much greater density of thujone than storebought ones, but the effects should be similar.
Reaper: I haven't tried Staroplzenecky. I'll admit I'm into absinthe equally for the taste as for the light show, so I might not like the same kinds you do, but if I ever come across it I'll give it a try!

Jagermeister is always good. Couple others have already been mentioned...
|
Jager??? Blech. I swear that's the main ingredient in Green Nyquil.
|
Yeah yeah, i've heard all the anti-Jager claptrap in the book . You guys just cant handle it's smooth, sweet Jager taste, heheh...
On a side note, I heard a rumour there is as much fat content in a single shot of Jagermeister as there is in one Big Mac. If this is true, it kind of explains alot. In any case, does anyone know for sure?
|
I'm thinking probably not.
Seriously man think about it. Jag is a liqueur made up of alcohol, water and a bunch of hergs for flavour. Where the hell would the fat come from. The only alcohol that would have fat in it would be anything with cream, like baileys. On a side note, a big mac has 30 g of fat and Jag is (I'm guessing, i've drank enoguth of it so you'd think I know) 35% alc/vol. For estimation purposes, we'll assume that fat/alcolol/water have the same density.
So in a 1.5oz shot (45 ml), you've got ~45g of liquid (using water as the base density). So if 35% of that is alcohol (15.75g), that leaves only29.25g of liquid left. So even if Jag contained any fat at all, and even if it was made completlely of alcohol and fat. No, it would be impossible for it to have a higher fat content than a big mac.
I dunno if you meant fat or calories. Alcohol has the second highest in calories per gram. Of course fat is the highest. Explains the beer belly.

Even Calories don't work.
There's still 30 g of fat in a big mac along with a lot of other sugars and starches and stuff. vs the 15.75 g of alcohol in which already has a lower caloric content. So I'm pretty sure the big mac destroys the jag in every category, except gettin' messed up.

Other than that I most stick to beer, usually Big Rock Honey Brown.

I like port. And scotch. And gin and tonics with lots of lemon. And sake (not the stuff that's the only brand available in Canada - that stuff is bad). I like drinking, though I don't do near as much binging on it as I once did. I tipple more nowadays.
I also agree with Rouge about Pimms. The Brits drink it with lemonade - add lemons to your 7up and that's what it is. Very good stuff.

I've bought 3 different absinthes, the best one is Un Emile 68. Has a great aftertaste with different kinds of herbs, almost like flowers! Not as much anise as the other brands as well.
The secondary effects in these absinthes may be felt a bit, but I drink for the taste as well as for the somewhat snobbish nature of drinking expensive stuff thats not whiskey :-)

As for other alcoholic stuff, rum and coke, as well as Long Island Ice tea, a bit of an aquired taste - but once you learn to like it, theres nothing better.
