You sound tense. I taken you haven't hit up a Boston Pizza in Edmonton in quite some time?

I am not tense at all. I am pretty chill actually. Do I come across otherwise?

I have never hit up a BP in Edmonton. Have you?

I am going to go with demented reality in that I would not hire a teenager who smoked to watch my kids. Not because smoking is stupid or irresponsible though.

Instead my objection is that kids smoke because they want to challange authority. Smoking is a sign of rebelling about not wanting to be a cog is society. In my babysitter I want someone who is okay with parental authority. Therefore on those grounds I would reject smoking teenagers as babysitters for my kids.

Of course! It's the only place in Edmonton where all the females have all their teeth since once they turn legal their teeth drop out faster than the Oilers chance at the playoffs.

Eh? I go rock climbing (excessive risk), but I don't dangle other people's children off balconies.

So your nanny doesn't drink coffee, cook with a microwave, have a glass of wine, cross the street in traffic? Those are all risks too.

Not saying I condone smoking, but if the sitter isn't doing it in your house or in front of the kids, who cares?

If my prospective employer said I didn't get the job because I drink beer when I watch hockey games... Wow. Just wow.

To be fair, you do rather bring down the public image of smokers to a new-found low. I might trust you with a child of mine, if I didn't really like him/her and wanted to have a plausible story as to how the juvenile delinquency wasn't my fault.

Hey all dusting off this thread to see what the average rate is in 2015. Any and all information is appreciated!

I just noticed that JAGoff got banned. I was eagerly awaiting his return to this thread.

How'd he get banned, anyway? And has he returned?

I've been paying $7/h but that's for a relatively young babysitter and not very late (usually just to around 8:00 or so); for an older babysitter who can stay later I'd expect to pay more.

We pay $10/hour to have our 6 and 3 year old's watched. I think that's about as cheap as you can find for 2 kids

So $10/hr for a 20 month old would be reasonable?

My wife charges $40 per per day per kid (for 8 hours). She's got 5 kids so that's $25/ hr essentially. Quite the racket considering all the stuff you can write off at tax time.

We have 2 of our own so it's actually 7 lol. She works as hard as anyone I've ever met and it's much better money than 99% of what's out there right now especially considering if she did something else we'd have to put our 2 in daycare.

I don't know the exact bylaws and provincial law, but doesn't 7 kids exceed the max allowed for 1 person?
