I always use a self-checkout whenever the option is available. I hate when a store has the self-checkout, but its closed...always mind boggeling why they need to close those down.

Self-checkouts and drive-thru's...two things that work smoothly most of the time, but when they get messed up...boy is it frustrating.

I would just like to clarify that 50 is NOT old (so, yes, I am in my 50's). I think old starts at about 87.

One of the funniest things I ever saw was at Walmart and some guy was using one of those things.

He was at the point where the thing was asking him to select his form of payment.

So he pushes the touch screen and waits. "Please select your form of payment".......

touches it again "Please select your form of payment"

pushes the screen a little harder "Please select your form of payment"

Sort of hits the thing with the tips of his fingers......same thing.

On about the 8th time, this normal looking middle aged guy, probably 50ish, wearing Khakis and a golf shirt, winds up and frikkin Falcon Punches the LCD screen. Like he annahilated it. Bent the thing back, and totally gibbled the display left his stuff on the scale and just walked out.

It was one of those, "did I just frikkin witness that?!!" kind of moments, and I started laughing along with every other guy in the line, while all the women just glared at all of us.

So if you can't follow these simple rules go stand in line at a regular cashier with your check book handy.

HEY!!! I take offense to that. Just because you turn 50 doesn't mean you turn stupid too. There are plenty of young people who are so dumb they can barely tie their own shoe laces.

Yeah... like just because you're under the age of 50 you automatically understand how everything works. I guess when you turn 50 the "understand switch" must automatically turn off eh?

I guess you've never met anyone young who is dumber than a post eh?

Stupid kids.... they think they know it all.

Edit: Btw, did you know that the median age of Physics Nobel prize recipients is 51?

I always get a kick out of people who make comments like that. They seem to figure they are immune from aging, and will never get old. Once you hit 30, the years start going by real fast... and all of a sudden you are the guy struggling with how to operate the "virtual holo-replicator grocery tron 5000 cashier" and taking offence to statements like that.

It's very frustrating there. It's not like you have to assemble the self-checkout first.

Are these really rules or just Bert ranting? Serious question. I have rarely used self checkout so don't know if rules exist.

Yup, these rules are written on top of every self-checkout machine.

hmmm yes. that last rule has a sign posted right above every monitor on the self checkout... except for in Edmonton for some odd reason.

If those rules really were rules we wouldn't have this thread.

Yeah, but the bonus is you can pay the female cashiers up there with Old Dutch chips.

Maybe this has been said already but note to Walmart.

Turn off the Fing "Please put item in bag" announcement. WTF do you care if I put the item in the bag or not? Even when I do put it in the bag the stupid machine doesn't recognize it in the bag. After three times telling me to put it in the bag it locks out and calls over the cashier who is to busy dealing with everyone else's terminal that is locked out because of the damn bag thing.

TURN IT OFF.

It's funny to hear peoples rants about having problems with the self checkout. I personally have never had a problem with them... probably because I'm young and hip to new technology.

Ah to be young and hip again.... <sigh>

It so difficult being an old, feeble minded pentagenarian. I'm surprised I can still manage to start my automobile and find my way to work every day.... what with all that new fangled technology they've got now in those horseless carriages these days.

Will someone just take me out to the back forty and shoot me?.... you know.... just to put me out of my misery?

seems like rants to me... certainly worth ranting about of course, I've seen both of these problems happen on many occasions.

LOL good point... a new idea using old technology. I guess being young doesn't make a person so smart after all
