i played a few games on an nvidia 3d monitor that uses the same principle in applying 3d using the refresh rate

Maybe with some kind of huge firmware update to have it take input from 2 HDMIs simultaneously it might be possible, I don't know. Also, you need a way to sync the TV with the glasses. Currently there's a 3-pin output on 3D TVs for this purpose. It's not used for 3D monitor + shutterglasses, but for a TV without a 3D sync, the only way I could possibly see it getting synced is with hardware profiles on the response time. That means whatever your source is will have to have a way to handle sync. IMO, if 3D is an issue for you, you should either wait for CES and see what comes out, or get something that's actually 3D-ready.

Here's a list.

http://www.3dmovielist.com/3dhdtvs.html

Unfortunately, the only plasmas that Samsung made 3D-Ready are 720p, so you'd be looking at a DLP. I expect 3D-Ready 1080p LCDs and plasmas will vastly expand the list sometime in 2010.
no assumptions from me! i was just stating that there will be limited likelihood (if at all) for the 3D effect in 60 Hz - i would like to say that it is impossible but i just don't know enough about the upgradability of these things. i was simply pointing out exactly what you were - that there is something coming and if it is important to consider waiting until January.

i think that the format wars will be just as bad on this technology and unfortunately for me i am ready to move on a new tv. i either cheap out and know that it will be replaced or buy something decent and move it into a non 3d required room. i expect that i will be forced to go with the latter.

as far as content goes, i expect that with the success of Avatar, and the various animated 3d movies out there, the movie studios won't be able to keep their paws out of re-releasing movies if at all possible from their libraries.

personally, i would love to see LOTR or star wars in 3d. and of course sports and video games. for me, this is way more important to me than bluray and the 1080p format over 720p.

I think with 3D because there are lots of required components it makes sense for people to try to go to a standard instead of a big format war, i.e. make a player that works with existing 3DTVs. Hard to sell 3D Blu-rays if nobody can play them without a $2000 investment. Hopefully that's the way Sony sees it as well.

3D PC games are doing pretty well. PS3 goes 3D soon. Lucas has publically mused about getting Star Wars converted into 3D, but conversions are simply not as good as natively 3D content, and it's difficult and expensive to do.

I'd spend the extra $300.
From 9', I'd say 55" is okay, taking twice the screen size X 2.
The idea for me is to get a more immersive experience, so I'm happy with a distance about 1 1/2 times the screen size.

This is a cross-post but its more relevant in this section.

I just bought this maybe an hour ago. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia...&skuId=9299895

I had about 1400 to spend on a TV .... so i have been researching for a while.
Anyway I saw it on a wall next to a samsung 1080 and the pic was pretty decent comparingly. I have a samsung 46 inch 1080 and had a 46 hitachi projection. I got rid of the hitachi to make room for a new tv. I went with this mainly because of the price , which i actually only paid 657.00 bucks. I know they prob give it to everyone but since I am the highest reward zone member they said thats why i got the discount. It made me feel special lol....
secondly Insignia is the only tv brand right now that offers a 2 yr warranty on their Tv's. You can even buy another 2 yrs from bestbuy that includes a loaner program if they cant fix your tv that day.

Got it home out of the box and hooked it up... I turned it to NHLHD network and HOLY !!!!! It looks better than my 1080 LCD that I had in the living room. I was blown away. It is a nice TV , not the best but I was saying it is. However for under 700 bucks and double the warranty , I am extremely happy with my purchase....

2nd best thing , Now the 46 inch samsung gets to go to the sports room to play video games on WOOT WOOT!!!! LOL

Can you still negotiate on pricing for TV's at places like Best Buy or Futureshop? I know that you used to be able to haggle a bit for stuff like that.

The salesman said well let me go see what was going on. The Salesman came back and said well I dont see that in there anywhere but I'll give it to you since if I dont youll drive to the other one and get it ."

I've found that if you tell the kid to drop the price even more and you'll buy the warranty they'll jump all over it. I guess that's where they make their money.

Yeah, but then you're buying a useless warranty...

I'd never buy a warranty on a TV. Waste of money.

I disagree. Many review sites (CNET included) are actually recommending buying extended warranties simply because the cost of repair is so high.

I have a 2 year old 58inch plasma. One day 6 weeks ago, I turned it on and there was a thin horizontal black line through the screen. I had a repair guy in and he said the panel needed replacing.... thank god I bought the extended warranty. Is this common...maybe not, but you will appreciate it if you need it.

How do you go about haggling on tvs? I tried when I bought mine 3 years ago but to no avail, he said "this is the lowest we can go, we actually don't make any money on the tv as it is". It was $1299.99.

My next tv which I'll get in 2-3 years is going to be over $2k, so I want to be able to haggle, or at least get a HD PVR thrown in or something.

You simply ask .... I go in with a price I want to pay ..... then I ask them to meet me at a price lower than that. So lets say there is a tv for 1000 bucks... I wanna pay 925$... Ill tell them 1000 Bucks? come one Ill give ya 875 for it right now in cash to take it out the door....

they always say hold ill see what I can do for ya... then they come back and cant meet it and they are usually somewhere close to the price I am wanting....

I bought the 40" Toshiba REGZA 120hz and my god.. Blu-Ray and Games on this thing is amazing. I don't know if I would ever buy a sub 120hz tv in the future.

I highly recommend it. Everything is just so clear movement wise. I got it for $749 dropped from $799 US

So I am just about a click away from buying this tv. Sale ends today.

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/...9e696e227fen02

I've done a lot of research and reviews are generally very good. My only question is, will I be kicking myself in a few months for not getting 1080p. How important is 1080p ?

This tv seems like a great deal to me. Am I wrong?

Ive been looking at 50 inch Regza's. Good to see the quality is good, it was the one that stood out for us when we were looking.
