Every year at the place I used to live at we went all out, or more so my roommate. Have a maze with painted walls of various themes ie: Shining twins, evil aliens etc. a 12 foot guillotine and an upside down cross on the 2nd level that holds a guy upside down that we once chainsawed open to have guts spill out, last year burnt the witch. The maze also had a setup for when you got lost, and tons of cool decos and other things such rope lighting creating a big evil demon looking face in the backyard.
ANYHOOOOO...this year I'm going as towelie, or the 2nd tower. It might be a tasteless theme.
We get a dry ice smoke machine for the front of the house. Hubby made a life size coffin - spent ages on it - lined it with red satin - and we have a really life like rotting skull and two arms. Made some tomb stones and a 'ghost' with blue LED eyes. All accompanied by a CD of creaking doors, wolf howls and cackling witches. Only our second Hallowe'en this year as it really isn't done in England - so we are embracing it all big time. Really scared some kids last year!
To really scare the kids and anyone who's played left 4 dead add this soundtrack!
I've been tossing around some ideas in my head that will work with my beard. Not much, but I came up with Billy Mays/zombie Billy Mays, Bob Ross, and my own take on two-face (shave one half of my face and do the scar/burn make-up on the shorn side). Another one that was suggested to me was Beast from X-Men. I might be able to pull it off, but that's an awful lot of blue make-up.
Anyone else have suggestions/ideas for guys with beards? I would really like to not have to shave this Halloween if I can at all avoid it.
Well you do have Mirror Spock in your avatar....But I suppose that is a goatee not a beard.
Edit: And finding a Sequin shirt for Neil Diamond is harder than I anticipated.
Yeah, and i seriously doubt people would understand who exactly I was. No doubt they'd clue-in to me being Spock, but they'd just see me as "Spock with a beard".
I was Freddie Mercury last year and was really disappointed when I had to keep telling people who I was, so this year I'm trying to go a little more mainstream/recognizable.

In that case, avoid being the Doppler Effect.

If there's any doubt that Halloween isn't for kids any more, check out the Halloween Distributors store in the old Tool Warehouse location on Heritage Drive. Let me put it this way: if you've been invited to a Halloween party that's being held in the basement of Chicken on The Way, this is a good place to get a costume for that kind of party.
Theres DON's Hobby on centre street near Lambda and just before Lions bridge, they usually have some great Costumes for sale, but you better get there early because the week before Halloween they are always packed.

Being one of the bearded brethren myself, I can sympathize with the difficulty. Particularly since I'm a ginger as well... Halloween ain't easy. A couple of suggestions:
My plan this year is to go as GOB from Arrested Development, as I'm tall and actually look kind of like him. The final piece for the costume would be a Franklin puppet, does anyone have any advice as to how I would go about creating something like this? I have no artistic skills whatsoever.
Picture for people who don't know what I'm talking about:
