I'm on Fido right now.
Do you think you'll have to re-up your contract or something or pay more for MMS as well? Not sure how that works.

3MP AutoFocus camera. Also tap-to-focus. You tap on a part of the picture, and it focuses the camera on that.
Video capture! 30FPS, VGA with audio, auto-focus, auto-white balance, auto-exposure. Edit the video on the phone itself, and then email it, or post it to youtube, MobileMe, etc. Even has an API so other apps can make use of it.
Voice commands! Hold the Home button down for a second or two and then you can say "Call, Play" etc.
Compass App, Nike+ support.
Data encryption. So... with on-device data encryption, remote wipe and full exchange support, they're really going after the corp users. I mean, they always were, but those three items are pretty much must-haves in the corp device market.
New battery stuffs:

Wow, the current 8GB iPhone 3G will be $99 starting today. New iPhone 3GS will launch on Jun 19th. $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB.
Edit: One week later, in Canada.

Cool, I've been wanting to switch back to an iPhone from my Blackberry. I have a mac and a mobileme account so it's a no brainer to go back to the iPhone which I like more then my Blackberry.

So if my phone is not working properly it would be best to wait until after the 19th to have apple look at it?

Take it in. You're not going to get a 3GS as a replacement if it's truly messed up. Furthermore, the firmware likely won't matter much.

Take a look at what AT&T is charging for upgrades to the 3GS (for existing customers):
Quote:
Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). Visit www.wireless.att.com for eligibility information.
|
$700 freaking dollars for a 32GB 3GS iPhone for existing customers! Insanity! They don't even have tethering or MMS working yet!
I'm almost afraid to ask, but any word on what level of highway robbery Rogers is going to put out there? If they're in-line with AT&T, it could be upwards of $800 to get a new 32 GB iPhone, on top of the contract extension you'd be taking on. Brutal beyond belief.

I wonder if Rogers/Fido will have upgrade plans for those who have a 3G and want a 3GS?
EDIT: Ouch, doubt it'll be any better than that.

So, to clarify...
A brand new customer who has never spent a dime on an AT&T phone or contract, ever, in their lifetime, gets a new iPhone for $99.00 with a two-year contract.
Someone else, however, who has spent thousands of dollars on AT&T phones and contracts, has to spend $499.00 and extend their current contract by another two years, just to get that same phone.
Someone remind me how Mobile companies have ever been allowed to stay in business?

I've seen cheaper figures from AT&T, down to base cost for people with expiring contracts (those with 1G iPhones on 2-year deals), but I still haven't heard anything about Rogers' upgrade pricing.
Either way, I think I'll likely skip this one and wait for the next revision.

My iPhone got stolen, I can't begin to derscribe how much that sucked.
So I phoned up Fido and asked what I could do to replace it. They said that since I signed up for the 3G seven months ago, I wasn't eligible to 'upgrade' to another 3G iPhone until 2011. I said that this didn't answer my question, and their agent told me that their policy states that no iPhone can be delivered without a brand new contract. They continued by saying that I was welcome to break my current contract for $400 + $100 (data) and get a new phone straight away for $299, but that I couldn't retain my 6GB of data plan (it would be only 1GB of data/month) and that my monthly rate would increase since their rates had increased since my plan commenced.
I ended up purchasing a new iPhone. Via Kijiji.
So I'm wondering now if Fido/Rogers will stick to their policy and only allow upgrades during the last 6 months of any given contract. I know now that I'll never buy another iPhone from that company again.

I don't think Rogers will be able to charge the same prices -- really, (almost) anyone that wanted an iPhone in Canada got it over the past year...so they will need to incent people to "upgrade" from 3G to 3Gs by keeping the prices reasonable

Tethering Policy
Tethering is the use of your phone as a wireless modem to connect to the Internet from your computer. For a limited time, if you subscribe to a data option which includes at least 1GB of data transmission between June 8, 2009 and December 31, 2009, you may use tethering as part of the volume of data included in your option at no additional charge. Tethering cannot be used with data options of less than 1GB.

So does this mean people with existing buckets won't get charged extra? I mean, even people without the 6GB bucket.
At the end of the day, this is all I really care about. Give me 3.0 on my existing 3G and don't charge me extra for tethering... and they can keep their 3GS.

So are they not going to let us tether if we already have a data plan?
