I think this thread answers the question "why do men under the age of 25 pay more for insurance?"
I was driving down highway 2 with a buddy once and we were passing everything like it was standing still but his speedometer said 120 and I kept saying "that thing doesn't work, everyone else isn't driving 60 on the highway!" and of course it just felt like we were flying. I don't know what his plan was -- I suspect he figured he'd get out of any tickets because his speedo didn't work. And I don't know how fast we were going. It was a Dodge, so not that fast, but probably 170, 180. Nice quick trip, even if it was kind of dangerous.
I saw an episode of the Twilight Zone where a regular airplane caught a wicked tailwind and got going so fast they ended up travelling through time and the passengers could see dinosaurs out the window. I don't know if it was based on a real event, but that would be pretty cool.

185 in my Civic on a highway out to Okotoks, I was the only one on the road as far as I could see and I was 17. The car started shaking so it didn't really last too long at that speed.

Can you get a drinking and driving ticket? Just wondering, because isn't that a motorized vehicle?
Or would it only count if you had headers and a chip on the thing?

If you've ever been on a plane you most certainly have. Most passenger jets need over 200 mph on take-off to get enough lift.

You guys are freaks. And I'm the one with a speed demon reputation? I think in Canada the fastest I've gone is about 170 or so. That was (more or less) keeping pace in the left lane on the QEII.
I rented a car in Italy and got it up to 200 on the highway between Florence and Rome. It was all part of a joke though. My dad came out to visit me and I told him the old joke "What kind of car goes 100 in 1st gear? A rental!". Then I took it up to 200 just to annoy him. (no, not in 1st gear)

When I bought my bike I took it out to Turin, which is in the middle of knowhere southern Alberta. The highway is in good condition so I took her up to 255km's...........and it still felt like I was sitting in a lazyboy. It's amazing how fast the telephone poles were whipping by, and how the wind seems powerful enough to take your head off if you don't duck behind the windscreen.

Clearly you're just throwing out numbers with no idea what you're talking about. A parsec is measure of distance, not time. And a measure of distance that's really only meaningful in the context of observation from a fixed point, not something that's meaningful to space travel. And by the way, your ship looks like a piece of junk, you nerfherder.

It took me a second to realize that you guys are in canada and are talking K/H not MPH. Because I would like to find a civic that would do 140 without a 10 mile downhill stretch with a tailwind.
I have been 160 mph in my uncles porsche 951. I have had my eagle talon speedo buried and it goes to 140.

You are right there do seem to be some speed demons here. But keep in mind the following.
First of all some people might be exagerating.
Second, I'm sure most of these people have only done it on a few occasions preferably during good conditions with little to no traffic.

I think it was about 4 years ago when I owned my 92 Laser RS NA I got that thing up to 180 kph, I thought about going faster but then I remembered that I bought the cheapest tires Sears sold and they were only rated for 180 kph.

Just nudged 100 mph in a Sebring with four passengers and all our camping stuff going down from Yosemite to Death Valley. Speed limits are way too low for competent drivers.

Yeah. I'd hope thats only when they would do it. Youre just asking to have your liscence pulled and get into really bad immediate debt if youre speeding like this in traffic.
A couple Ferarris blew by us on the Crowchild the night of the 50 Cent concert. They were going around 150ish and weaving through some light traffic. It was kinda scary cause they just blew past us with no warning.

I'm assuming most of these distances are in kilometers right? I dont drive very fast but my husband just took my brand new Mini Cooper S (turbo engine) out to a twisty road and drove it 120 MPH which is equivalent to 193 km or so. 90 MPH seems to happen a lot around here (thats about 144 km)...I guess 140 km is normal on Alberta roads, right? I grew up in Fort Mac, Alberta where people drove pretty darn slow....I know in Calgary and Edm you guys go a lot faster. I usually go about 75 MPH on the regular San Jose freeway (120 km) and people pass me all the time......not used to it I guess!
Good thing I love my little car! Zips around everywhere. Hehe is it silly to love your car so much you gave it a name?
