Some of the banned posters had really good insight, but just couldn't debate without belittling the person they were debating. "Ad hominem" would describe their method of debate, but it was kind of sad because many points raised in between attacks were good.

Others just seemed to get riled up and act like the person was personally attacking them.

And others seemed to figure that anonymity was license to say whatever they want, regardless of the appropriateness.

Whatever happened to Cerebral? I miss his hopeless Oilers optimism.

Oh man Cerebral was one of the best. That guy would come out with stuff so far out of left field about the oilers half the time I thought he was just here to screw with us.

He may have od'd on the kool-aid.

Before my time, but I must admit that it is indeed hilarious. It's literally like he was so livid that he was mashing the keys with his palm.

One of these days we should start up a "Best of CP" forum for threads like this.

Wow. He really flew off the handle. I really should venture into the hockey forum more often.

The funniest thing too was that they had a thread on Oilyfans about one of their own melting down on CP. hahahahahaha

haha, wicked! I didn't know that! I always tended to agree with him on issues and now i will agree with Resolute 14 but didn't know they were one and the same. lol

I know when i first joined here (2001?) i got bullied off the boards so fast it was nuts! It seemed (at least to me at that time) a lot more cliquey and harsh here although the actual level of hockey talk was probably, consistantly speaking, higher than now. So a year or two later, after lurking, I tried again and got right into it, and now i am probably (although i am not sure?) one of the more harsh posters in terms of trying to make a point? I was never like that before though, time here has certainly pulled out a once hidden side of me and now i find myself being a lot less timid in 'real life' as well! Kind of scary to see internet posting pulling out one hidden side of me and then seeing that reflected back into me again over time...

That all being said, i have certainly had my share of 'escalated incidents' and twice been 'suspended'...

I went from being a moderator on some other big sites to being the moderated here! lol

In six years I've never been in the sin bin.

Some people here would probably find this difficult to believe.

Now what about the Oilers fan who came on here saying Conklin was better than Kipper and Brodeur? The guy with all the stats to back up his otherwise crappy argument.

Mudcrutch, he's actually assisting Lowe in player assessment so he doesn't have time to post anymore.

He has his own blog out there -- I think Mirtle's site has a link to his blog...

...I got suspendered for a week once. I still think I was right (but that's all I'm gonna' say about that).

My buddy got banned from oilfans, and he's an Oilers fan. He wasn't too active so it didn't bother him too much...it was more fun for him to just keep arguing with the mods that one time than to suck it up.

...yeah but at some point or another you've predicted every player on the AHL squad would make the Flames at some point.

...but in your defence I had Kippers cap # pegged higher than $6 Million, and I never thought the loonie would reach $1.10 in greenbacks.

In as much as he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way - myself included at times - I do miss Lanny. Especially for his epic wars with Bicycle Bruce Dowbiggin on HF. He was a good poster who made too many mistakes.

Fortunately, I've only made one similar mistake in my time here. I have been banned at a few other places in my time, however. Two of my favorites were getting kicked off of skyscraperpage after an Eastern Canadian administrator decided that pointing out that Western Alienation actually did exist interfered with his utopian view of Canada under a Liberal government. I also got IP banned from CNNSI's forums a few years ago after taking part in a rebellion against some incredibly restrictive posting rules. In short, saying "F this" was a bannable offence given what "F" stood for. The group I posted with all got blocked, then moved to the completely unused forum of the Columbus Post Dispatch of all places. Total anarchy. I was once offered a job as their webmaster when I sent an email pointing out some problems that were happening on those forums.

I've also been an admin/mod at a few places... which will drop some jaws, I'm sure.

I actually miss Cerebral. He was one of the few Oiler/Canuck fans I actually liked.
