I can't imagine needing 160GB, unless you are also saving videos.

love it. It's a little bulky, and I do put movies on it as well for the rare time I take transit. Great for flying as well. I commute to work on the bike paths so it's great for that, too.

From time to time I get the urge to ride public transit with my old Panasonic version of the Walkman and a bunch of cassettes. It'd be fun to see people's reactions as I flip cassette sides, etc.
I think the widespread acceptance of music in the office is partially from the dotcom boom, and partially from acquiescence to an increasing number of Gen Y workers.

Do people peek over your shoulder to see what you're watching?
Reminds me of the "Get your own!" Nintendo DS commercials

Ugh.... At least with headphones each person can pick their own music.
If i was forced to listen to 'Bob & Joanne' or whatever all day at work I would either shoot myself or quit - and promptly too - no waiting a few weeks to see how it goes... lol

I just moved into an office here (with real walls !!!!).
The first friday morning I found a great NFLD radio station and cranked it up.
You should have seen the looks I got from people walking by my door.

Many people are still convinced that this is impossible. It's impossible to concentrate on work when listening to music. They can't do it so they conclude that it's impossible for anyone else.

Yeah, I can't imagine not listening to music while I work...
I have my own private office, but I still put my headphones on and crank up the music while I work. I picked up a pair of $200 Bose over-the-ear headphones about a year ago, and oh man do they sound hot.
It sure helps the day go by quick, when I'm pouring over hundreds of lines of code, or thousands of records in a DB, or graphics, or net logs, or... blah blah blah...

When I worked at a fast food restaurant we were allowed to listen to the radio, but we did get it taken away a few times because some moron's just couldn't understand why we weren't allowed to play the music loud.
When I worked at Canadian Tire I had a few shifts where we started a few hours before the store opened and we were able to listen to whatever we wanted, but had to turn it off when the music was played over the store intercom (when the stereo was working).
My 1st IT job we didn't listen to the radio in the office but we were on the road quite a bit, so that didn't matter, plus when we were in the office we always had about a dozen customers in the "store".
My 2nd IT job we listened to whatever we wanted... just not Greenday, my boss hated Greenday. We had a radio that we sometimes tuned into, and sometimes we'd listen to internet radio. Whoever got in to the office 1st usually got to pick. Often the guy in the corner had 80s music playing and me in the opposite corner would be listening to the FAN960 and it didn't interfere with each other.
My current job in the common area (not really cubes), there is about two or three radios(so everybody can hear), all tuned to the same station and if somebody wants to listen to something else they can put on earphones. People in the offices (depending on the person) will listen to whatever they want. The person who wants music banned has a hard time concentrating when there is background noise.... I don't understand it because the department just outside of our offices is full of a bunch of chatterboxes and that bothers me, but not him. But he'll come into my office if I'm listening to something and ask me to turn it off because he can't talk to me while I have it on... I keep it so low that you can't even hear it when you are just outside my door.

I've never done that. But the other day on the C-Train I was trying to solve somebody's Soduku puzzle.
At my work, we are allowed to listen to music with headphones. No internet radio is allowed since it sucks up all the bandwidth.

Working from home I can listen to whatever I want to the point that I get sick of my own music on my ipod...there is a good channel on shaw I think it is 426 Adult alternative that I am now onto....I am constantly trying new music as anything too catchy or mainstream gets very anoying to work to....On another note regarding the banning of music....I run marathons and many of the races now ban ipods which I think is taking it too far and it should be a personal choice....but I guess I am not as safety sensitive as most...I guess people are into banning music these days....who knew??

Ipod's are a distraction but probably less so than people walking by, yacking on the phone, coughing, blabbing over the water cooler etc.
