That's exactly why John Kerry lost. But the next candidate won't. At the time of the last election Bush was sitting at 50% in the polls. A far cry from the 80% he had on September 12, but still a decent number for an election between two parties. Now that he's sitting in the mid-30s, it's pretty much done like dinner. Not that Bush is running, but it doesn't matter. Kim Campbell didn't lose based on HER record (though she did run a terrible campaign) - but that election was already over before it started. And while you can say that there were good people in the Conservative party at the time - they ALL got their asses booted out because of anger towards Mulroney.

You, as an individual, might need more than "I'm not Bush", but for the majority of people that will be voting, I think that would be enough.

Personally, I'd like to see Pelosi go after Bush and Cheney. I wish someone in the Democratic party would have the balls to stand for something - ANYTHING. But they seem content to stand for nothing whatsoever. I remember Jon Stewart interviewing Howard Dean about the 2006 election. Jon said "Before the election I asked what you were doing to win over voters and you said you were putting door-knockers on peoples doors. I said that was crazy - you can't win over voters with door-knockers - you need substance, values, a platform! But, no, you said you were going with the door-knockers. And it seems to have paid off very well for you."
