Lost In Translation sucked so boring.

My favorite critically acclaimed movie is probably The Godfather movies but I'm a sucker for mofia movies as my favorite movie of all time is Scarface. I also do enjoy movies that have twists and surprise endings. But I'm not one for those metaphorical read between the lines movies.

Your the first person I know that liked contact. Hell actually your the first person that really liked any Jodie Foster movie from the past 10 years. Honestly I can't think of a really good movie with her in it, maybe panic room although that was pretty stupid.
Well I guess that would make me the 2nd. I thought Contact was great.

As for other great Jodie Foster movies, well she hasn't made a lot in the last 10 years:

Panic Room (2002) - good movie
Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, The (2002) - good movie
Anna and the King (1999) - bad movie
Contact (1997) ....

Ugh, that's one I'll never get. I think Scarface is just a terrible movie. That gunfight at the end is positively ridiculous.

Another movie that people seem to love is Blade Runner but I don't think I've ever been able to sit through the whole thing.

I've never been a huge fan of the Matrix movies. I didn't get what all the Oscar buzz around Lost in translation was all about. I thought most of the scenes were completely useless.

Blade Runner, wasn't it recently voted the best Sci Fi movie ever by a bunch of science geeks? Watched it again recently and was very disappointed. It seemed way cooler 20 years ago.

I have to agree. I didn't watch any previews or did any research on it before i watched it and it was Super entertaining. Johnny Depp was amazing in this. This definitely rivalled his performance in 21 Jump Street. hehe

But you should watch it just for Kiera Knightley.

IMO the best Jodie Foster movie was Silence of the Lambs - not in the past 10 years, but a great movie nonetheless.

Maverick was pretty good, although that might have been more than ten years ago. Has anyone seen that episode of south park, where Mr Garrison is talking about contact? "Two hours to find out the alien is her gosh-darned father!"

I'm not sure if you are going by the "past 10 years" thing, but she was in Taxi Driver, which is one of the all time greats and gives a free pass for many bad movies.

Ironically enough, the same applies to Ray Liotta, who was the star of the greatest movie (Goodfellas) and he ended up in a Silence of the Lambs flick that Jodie Foster wouldn't go near and a host of other crap movies. but Goodfellas gives him a free pass.

Kill Bill, I didn't really hate it or anything, but not nearly as good as it was hyped to be.

It's too bad that none of you liked Contact all that much...I thought it was only ok...but the book, not trying to derail the thread or anything...but the book was incredible. If the movie did the book any justice (which it didn't - it left out the most important revelation at the end) the movie would be amazing.

I was also a fan of Vanilla Sky...I thought it was well done, not an amazing movie by any stretch but enjoyable.

Johnny Depp is one of my favourite actors. The guy is amazing. Pirates, Donnie Brasco, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, Benny and joon, Sleepy Hallow, Blow, From Hell, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Ed Wood, Edward Scissorhands.

One hell of an actor.

Actually Ray Liotta was in a very under-rated movie from last year called "Narc" with ummmmm....Jason Patric. Very good movie and Liotta was excellent in it. Check it out.

He makes average movies good and good movies great. Johnny Depp has been one of my favourite actors in everything from A nightmare on elm street all the way up to Secret window. There have been a small handful of films that I didn't enjoy but they are few and far between.

Good call, Narc was a very good movie. Ray Liotta was also in the underrated Identity with John Cusack. It came out in the summer of 2003 and not alot of people have seen it. Pretty good film, I would recommend it.
