One big factor is how many classe syou have with group work. If you get stuck in a couple of group assignments, it seems to triple your workload, because you have some jackass who want sto have 3 meetings a week, to discuss everything. I had a group once at SAIT, where our selp-appointed team lead wanted to meet on a Saturday night when the Flames were playing...I didn't go to the meeting

Sounds like you're one of those hard driving union ######s who like to not work very hard and then make outrageous claims on the rigors of the job when contract time comes around.

Actually, I am the opposite. I am about as far right-winged as you can get. By my attitude towards students complaining about work load, it should have been obvious that I wasn't a union guy.

Wow, I didn't know this. I guess its a good thing I am not in school anymore

Sometimes if you cheat on a test or assignment its better because:
i) you are happy about getting the assignment finished
ii) you are always happy becaus eyou got away with something

I am sure there are lots of people out there with much better grades than me. Thanks for pointing that out. I also scored a 132 on the Test the Nation show, but who's bragging.

Hey if cheating makes you happy, go nuts. But don't you think that sense of satisfaction might have been better if you were taking credit for something you had actually done or learned?

I take stuff like that a little more seriously in real life, as opposed to school

I suppose you might be right, but with the time I saved by cheating, I got to do other things, which contributed to my happiness

I had made it into my faculty (Haskayne School of Business), did one semester and found it extremely hard to maintain focus. At the time I was working at a car dealership as a lot attendant cleaning cars. So I decided to take the winter semester off and work full time untill next September.
Well Mid janurary rolls around and I get a call from my girlfriend, telling me she is pregnant. So here I am, I had just dropped out of school and was working full time for $9.50 an hour. Im 21 years old and I just learn I'm about be a father. I think I smoked about 3 packs of cigarrettes that day.
A few months went by and I quickly realized that I could not do what I was doing for a living. Working like a slave, doing someone else's dirty work for peanuts? Give me a break! How was I going to support a kid thoughout his whole life with this crap job?
So I made the decision to go back. It was a tough choice becaue I knew for the next two and a half years, I would be dirt poor. And I was, and I struggled financially through those years. It really made me depressed. I was still working part time for a tyrant of an owner, I had school assignements and papers to complete, and I had a kid to take care of 3 days a week.
But I finished my degree. Now I have a nice house that's mine and a son who lives with me full time. I can afford going on vacations, provide nice things for both myself and my son and I am able to enjoy life.
But those last two years of University were the most challenging in my whole life. It would have been SO much easier to quit everything and find a decent job to help eleveate some of the financial struggles and pressure from school.
But I didn't. I struggled through it. And I didn't do it for the piece of paper, or for the fact that there would be better opportunities for me when I finished (which there obviously were.) I did it because I said I would. I made a promise to myself that I would finish, so I wanted to put my money where my mouth is. To prove it to myself that I could finish something that I started, even though it was a big struggle.
You hear people all the time say, "Oh I could have done that, I just didn't want to." What a load of crap. If you could have odne it, why didn't you?
So you think school is tough? You're probably right. Does is suck sometimes? Absolutely. But the feeling you get when you finish is incredible, and there is nothing quite like it. To say to yourself that you did it in spite of all the struggles you faced is, in my opinion, one of the most valuable lessons you can learn. A great character builder. Now you know that when things get tough in the real world, and they undoubtedly will, you can stick it out.

As a member of the working class I think it's my duty to help guide and mentor the young adults in society. That said here's my never proven wrong words of wisdom.
School is fun. Work is not. Stay in school and enjoy it. The work will come soon enough and you'll wish you were back in school.

Isn't the definition of plagiarism reproducing something without the permission of the author? If you're copying your own work, isn't that a little hard to prove?
I wouldn't call it academic dishonesty, I'd call it academic laziness. Besides, by changing your own work you might even call it "Academic refinement"

If you have legitimately put in the work for an assignment and you can reuse that work for another assignment, I don't see where the problem is. Why reinvent the wheel for every project. Isn't the whole point of school to use previously learned knowledge to complete an assignment? Would you say, "Boss, we did a similar project 3 years ago, but lets forget every thing we did then and start from scratch." You would be fired.

You'd also be fired if you gave your boss a slightly modified old project on a different subject and explained to him that you misunderstood what he had asked you to do.
They key is to save all your old assignemnts, then just alter them slightly, and hand them in in a different class, then pretend that you didn't understand th eassignemnt. Usually this is good for a B-
Just out of interests sake, I wouldn't mind knowing where this kind of trick actually got the guy B-. The way I remember it, if you didn't understand the assignment, didn't do anything about it and then handed in an "off topic" paper, you had failed.

I think you would be ok as long as you changed all the dates from 2004 to 2007

Also, you show a lack of creativity. Something's already been done...yah. But a lot of the time - e.g. research - you are looking at the things that haven't been done, or the things that can be done better (i.e. unfound ways). Sometimes that means building on existing work, sometimes it doesn't.
To me, it just smacks of being lazy .

Obviously it wouldn't work if you tried handing in an old history paper for a management class, but if you have several different management classes, often you will have similar assignments, so you can use parts, or all of previous papers. At the time, I never thought of it as cheating, just as a way to get it done quicker.
