Lets be Honest the Flames rebuild started the day Gaudreau walked for nothing. It just to a while for the Management to admit it.

This is great, because of all the discussion on the site about whether this is a rebuild or not and whether it's been too reactive instead of proactive and on and on, I've been wondering if there is even a consensus on how long this...process has been underway.

To me, this is season 2 of a rebuild. We've hard two trade deadlines and two off-seasons of rebuilding leading into this season. If things go well, we should start to see the "fruits of our labours" when, then? Will we seem to be starting to turn the corner in 28/29 if all goes well? Will it be one more season after that?

Google, hockeydb, and Puckpedia tell me that the Oilers were 21 points out of a playoff spot and only Columbus was worse in the West. They traded Penner at the tail end of the previous season and didn't make any notable acquisitions.


Their roster included such luminaries as Theo Peckham, Ryan Jones, Corey Potter, and Lennart Petrell.

The only things the Oilers need to be competitive in 2011-2012 are time, two NHL forwards, two top four defensemen (one of them on the right side), and a reliable veteran goalie. Instead, they've decided to go with a bunch of kids, some ruffians, six bottom-pairing defenders (all on the left side), and Nikolai Khabibulin.

I always have believed in that too. In fact, I think CP should spearhead an effort to buy the Flames.
