I just want to see them lean into playing the young players in bigger roles. It’s still Kadri, Backlund, Huberdeau and Coleman in every situation playing the biggest minutes.
Don’t like to see Zary, Parekh and Klapka with limited minutes in the 3rd. Bean, Hanley, Weegar and Andersson make just as many if not more fumbles with the puck than Parekh but he’s the only one sitting for most of the last 8 minutes.
Kadri is struggling more and more to generate chances it seems. Still unlucky and a little snake bit to not have a goal but I think his struggles looked a little more obvious the last couple games.

I agree that it’s time to shift gears and forget about playoffs.
Make a few trades to make room for rotating young guys in. Make it a pure development year.
I honestly think they might do better. I don’t think you could do worse.

I do think it is a lot to expect a team to play as disciplined and focused as last year particularly given the lack of talent. They rode a thin line between losing and winning all season. Starting over from square one and doing it again is a lot
Long term talent wins out. You can maybe overcome it for a short term but not for multiple seasons
I don’t think it’s a motivation issue
It’s a talent issue
|
No no no, you see, missing the net more than any other team and having the lowest shooting percentage is a COACHING issue, not a TALENT issue.

Icing Backlund against Montreal's speedy young talent in a 4 on 4 situation is technically a skill discrepancy issue, but also very much falls on coaching.
Context is important. And Huska could have gone in a direction that could give them a fighting chance instead of what he ended up doing.

3 on 3 man.
And yeah wouldn’t it have been great if tonight he started Zary, Coronato and Parekh in the OT and said just said giver guys go for the win.
No we start a slow 36 year old centre and a D who doesn’t even want to be here against their youngsters.

You aren’t behind closed doors, to be frank
He got a lot out of very little last year
They implemented changes, and let’s not kid ourselves, preseason is really not much visibility in to the regular season actual lineup. They have had a very tough schedule, which everybody talked about before it happened, yet are improving in many ways the last couple of games
Dougie was hot garbage for his first 20 games . Figured it out
Such a small sample size, no need to be overly dramatic at this point

I actually want to see Iginla join Huska behind the bench(maybe next year). I think he'd be a pretty good coach similar to Rod the Bod.

I wonder if the idea was for Backlund to win the faceoff and change. Coronato beat the Habs in 5 seconds last year I get him being out

I would definitely start developing Klapka in the top 6. It is extremely difficult to find skill + size + physicality (the willingness to use that size!) in a top 6 player. Having a player like his will help anyone else on his line, especially the more diminutive guys that may end up on that line in the future. I think Klapka ends up becoming Calgary's version of Tom Wilson down the road. That's really valuable.
|
You don’t announce a rebuild now. It was pretty much obvious when they lost Lindholm, Hanifin, etc
If you didn’t call it one then, why on earth introduce it now ?
It’s a building phase

This game shows just how flawed expected goals are as a stat. Somehow we finished the game with more expected goals than Montreal.
There is absolutely no way anyone who watched the full game could come to that conclusion. The ONLY reason we did not get blown out is because of Dustin Wolf. We allowed so many breakaways and point blank chances.

Been saying it for years
On the other hand, Montreal did put a lot into Wolf’s chest

Seeing Parekh getting the final 10 seconds of every PP with Backlund, Coleman and Farabee makes me want to throat-punch the wall.

I get it, and that's why I said I want to hear how he does it.
Still. When everyone on the team is struggling in the same way ... questions are naturally going to be raised about the common denominators. That year that Dougie struggled ended with the coach being fired.

Ah, I get that
Cool thing is he is speaking at an event for minor hockey coaches soon
Looking forward
And Dougie’s first 20 and Hartley’s ouster … correlation is not causation. I think you know that, but will not reiterate the season of transgressions here

You keep saying this like it actually happened...there was one breakaway in the third that was a missed pass that bounced off the end boards right to their guy. Wolf made an incredible save. There was a partial break away short handed.
Flames allowed way too much in the first but after that didn't allow a ton TBH. Not breakaways though, slot shots were too high. Do you know what a breakaway is?
