Yeah, I think Sharangovich is a good place to start. Easily could have been Frost who got bumped in my eyes - and perhaps he's next.

I hadnt looked at that but find it basically unbelievable.
To be fair most of the team has looked and played bad to really bad. So under normal circumstances it’s probably not the pairing you go to first (I think Bahl/Parekh has the makings of a good top pairing we could see as early as mid season) but right now it is what it is.

I wouldn’t call him a legendary defender, but he’s as steady-eddy as it gets on the team right now. When he’s on the ice 5v5 this season good things happen more than bad things.

He's a good guy and hasn't complained. But this is also not what he signed for when he was traded. He expected to partner long term with Hanifin or Zadorov, on a team that had Lindholm and Toffoli up front to complement Kadri, Huberdeau, 35 goal Mangiapane, etc.

Russell's advanced stats were horrible. It was the "eye test" crowd who thought he was good, and it was literally entirely because he blocked a lot of shots, no other reason.

The Flames D looks worse than it is because their forwards couldn't break out of a wet paper bag.

This coach has already played Parekh on the left side this season, and Weegar in the past has played both LD and RD.

Yes, but why put them at a disadvantage. Flames have messed up before playing guys on the side they dislike.

Not enough Gridean in the lineup.

Either this is going to be a physical FU Game against Winnipeg or the boo birds are going to be out in droves.

The former won't work against a bigger Jets lineup so I suspect the latter will be the result.

I expect the Flames will outplay the Jets but won't even once find the back of the net.

I still think you need to rotate Lomberg out. He hasn't done what he's paid to do.
Lomberg is doing exactly what he is paid to do. Even last game he fought Sissions for hitting Parekh.

They talked about this team on 32 thoughts today. The direction Friedman took the conversation was... not what I expected. He was basically pleading with Flames management to not go out and make a move to fix this now, and trying to sell this management/fanbase on just letting a tank happen for one year. Bukauskas brought up DuPont and Friedman was warning him that this fanbase would want to hurt him(?) for even suggesting 2 years of tank.

I don't know where they get their ideas about this fanbase. It's like he gets his cues on what the Flames fanbase is like from Eric Francis and Murray Edwards. I don't know who these people are who are losing their minds at the thought of 2 bad years. It's already been 3 out of the playoffs.

Is he paid to make his linemates worse, generate no offense, and get hemmed in his zone defensively. Because that's what he's doing.

Great that he's willing to fight, but he's not a great fighter, and isn't a deterrent from anybody making those hits to start with, so it's irrelevant.

I posted this in the PGT but fits here too.

Both him and Kirkland should be nowhere near the lineup on a regular basis. Lomberg is a great locker room guy, but he can be that still as the 13th forward too.

And to be clear this isn't Lomberg's fault, he's giving 100%, he just shouldn't be an everyday player and he's better suited as a rotational 13th forward. It's Ryan Huska's fault as he's shown in his time as head coach here he has a very outdated philosophy of what the 4th line should be, and has never been able to properly deploy the 4th line in way that they don't get caved in each and every night.

Klapka - With: 45.2% xGF, w/o: 57.8% xGF
Sharangovich - With: 33.6% xGF, w/o 50.6% xGF
Pospisil - With: 46.7% xGF, w/o 48.1% xGF
Pelletier - With: 46.0% xGF, w/o 53.1% xGF
Coronato - With 46.9% xGF, w/o 51.9% xGF

His presence pretty much means the 4th line is going to be ineffective from an offensive and possession perspective. And it means that when you do have young players like Klapka, Pelletier, Coronato etc that get called up, they look bad by association because that line instantly gets dummied by the opposition

It's not just Lomberg's fault the last two years, because Rooney and Kirkland have been just as bad. Both with and without Lomberg.

Kirkland - With: 47.4% xGF, w/o: 26.6% xGF
Rooney - With 44.4% xGF, w/0: 40.0% xGF

17 forwards have played 150 or more minutes for the Flames since the start of last season. The bottom 3 in xGF%:

Kirkland: 41.9% xGF
Lomberg: 43.9% xGF
Rooney: 43.9% xGF

The next worst is Pospisil at 48.0%...

It will be a great day when we no longer have to worry about any of Lomberg, Kirkland, or Rooney consistently being on our 4th line, putting up no points and sub 45% xGF, while also blocking opportunities for younger players. 1 down, 2 to go.

One example does not make the case. I know what I see and he's not like he was, even last year. And I get it - it's a hard role game after game.

I suspect the Flames will score more than 2 goals tonight, because I won't be able to watch the game. That's good, right?
