Conditions on the pick:

If the Oilers first-round selection in 2026 is in the top 12, the team may instead choose to transfer their 2027 first-round pick to San Jose. Should Edmonton choose to trade their 2027 first-round pick prior to the 2026 NHL trade deadline, the 2026 first-round selection will automatically transfer to San Jose unconditionally.

Lol this guy is going to implode in Edmonton. A first?! He's been the #1D for SJS and averaging 23mins a game, where is he going to get that ice time in Edmonton?

He will also be 4th for giveaways in Edmonton.

Plucking D from the league's worst team. Bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for em.

For a 1st too.

Just vacuum out those cupboards eh.

I do wonder (without any firm evidence) if he has an attitude issue. Yzerman, even when he was with Tampa, was always quick to move on from guys with character issues (DeAngelo, Ingram, etc).

Of course there is attitude issues. Why else would the oilers give up a a 1st for him? 90% of their scouting is based on personality and if you aren’t a d-bag they don’t want you.

Are the Oilers allergic to first round picks?
