You know what else is? Among guys that have played 15 games (a starters typical total)...
8th in GAA
13th in Save% (.04 behind 7th overall)
But most importantly his team is 2nd in wins in games he started and tied for the division lead and are 11 points ahead of where they were on this day last year.
Yeah...i think NJ is A-OK with that trade and getting a "proven starter".

Yeah because defensive positioning and structure has totally nothing to do with GAA and SV%.
There are only 27 goalies who have played that many games. The Flames don't even have one. He's 18th at GSAE with 0.6, wow.

The 'Shesterkin' sounds like a style of pubic hair shaving from Taco Corp.

This fact is true, and applicable to all goalie stats. Which makes your statistical arguments just as flawed and useless as the ones you are arguing against.
I rate goalies by watching them play, and their ability to help their team win.
Every GM in the league will tell you they'd be thrilled to head into the playoffs with Shesterkin or Oettinger or Hellebuyck in net. And they wouldn't give a flying #### where any of them ranked in GAA or GSAE or anything else.

As a wise man once said, ‘Once you've got them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow.’ Their wallets, too, as we can see.

If Shesterkin in on his game he's the best in the world. That's not the question, question can he be consistently worth what he will get paid now for the next eight years. You can't hide a goalie like you can hide a skater who slumps, which happens with pretty much everyone. That's why don't pay a goalie top dollar. Rather use that to shore up the defense and get a capable goalie for fraction of the cost.

Can you blame them? They finally decided to hitch their wagon to one after all these years, and it was Carter Hart.

Those two contradictory points are precisely why you DO pay a goalie, if you are fortunate enough to have one of the best and most consistent ones.
Fans are quick to talk about goalies not being consistent. But goaltending is a very difficult position, that is more challenging to assess than simply looking at the numbers. Good goalies make the entire team better - few skaters can claim that in the same way.

So, if Wolf is the goalie we hope he is (an elite NHL goalie), we need to trade him when he wants to be paid like one?
Or do we pray he's decent, but not elite?
Just "capable" I guess?
