I've had Baron for a few classes. Thought he was great! (vocabulary and all!)

POLI 485
ECON 367
ECON 425
plus a PHIL and a French class

Never had Baron before, no, but I've heard great things about him.

And yes, his vocabulary is outstanding, and may in fact be the death of me.

Baron IMO is easily the best professor there, hands down. Extremely knowledgable, well spoken, very nice, and a fair marker who makes sure your papers are critiqued down to the last letter.

He's a huge nerd at heart, but I think that's why alot of people like him too.

Yep he is very fair.

Just make sure you use a lot of the vocabulary he uses in your papers/exams. It will help boost your mark. If at first you don't get what the hell he is saying, he usually ends up rephrasing the same thing a couple times in class so you understand/get it.

So, write down the big words and try to understand what they mean. Explaining stuff in laymens terms wont get you marks.

Young is an excellent excellent prof. That class gets pretty good if you have people in the class capable of starting good discussion. Are you in my 359 class rockstar?

Speaking of "best" poli sci profs at the U of C... I take it none of you have had a class with Dube.

Not I, but I really enjoyed Yound, and Wilson. Wilson is odd because you never know what he actually believes. One day he's a staunch feminist, the next a socialist, the next he's Machiavellian... that's why I liked him so much. I got a B- on every single paper I handed in in that class. I mentioned it in passing to a fellow student one day wondering what the hell would get me a better mark. I didn't realize he'd heard, but one day we were discussing something and he forced me to close the holes in my argument. I ended up with a B+, the difference being solely in the Final, and I think they were all weighted fairly evenly. Anyhew, love having discussions with that guy, he's a blast.

I couldn't pull off any better than a B- in any of my papers in Wilson's class. And I like to consider myself a fairly decent writer who went to all the lectures. He didn't seem like an a-hole, but he sure marks like one.

Are we talking about Soci's Linda Henderson? If so, she is awesome. Did she bring her 'tool box'?
I took soci of gender a few years ago with her. I also took stats with her, she somehow even made stats interesting

Dube is the man... best Poli Sci prof in the faculty.

I liked Baron too, he was fair. I also liked Perl a lot before he left, and Sayers can be a lot of fun, and not too harsh of a marker.

haha, her tool box was awesome. Definitely one of my better profs in University. SOCI201 with her is a good class...definitely made me want to take a couple more soci's as options.

I think it would have been the Winter of '03 where it was revealed that the University wasn't renewing her contract b/c she was a PhD that was "just an instructor" and didn't do research (or the fact she publicly criticised someone in the administration). I'm very pleased to see she's back (still? I haven't been paying attention) teaching.

The equiv I'm taking at UofA (EE 315) was my favourite class lol. I liked it so much I'm looking to take a stream of electromagnetics, either nanotechnology of photonics.

That's hilarious, guys. My two marks I've received from Wilson have both been 70, a B-. I also went to every class and consider myself a decent writer.

Does he give everyone B-???

Peter, I have 359 in SS109 at 2:00 pm MWF.

That would be mine as well.

I got a B- on my first paper with Wilson, I took 213 with him in the Winter of 1st year and got an A on my second paper. As a poster above said, the trick is to cover every single possible hole in your argument with theoretical jargon. He likes that kind of stuff. I would say he is a good prof but I'm disappointed that I didn't take 201 with Dube. Miles above Wilson in my opinion. I handed in my 310 political philosophy paper to Dube before the break and got it back with 5 pages of his own notes attached to it. I hear a rumour he is leaving the UofC.

Yeah, I've heard awesome things about Dube. Many of my friends say he's the best they've had. I guess if he's leaving I'll never find out.

Peter12, I've got a Flames hat and Flames t-shirt on today.

I thought Len Wilson was average, par for the course. Nothing special about this guy. Same goes with Dr. Huebert - everyone speaks so highly of him, but when I took his 439 class, he seemed like a self-absorbed prick all semester and gave absolutely no time for discussion.

I really enjoyed Mark Baron and Kari Roberts, although she isn't around anymore.

Course Description:

ELG4104 Antennas and Propagation (3,1.5,3b) 4 cr. Antenna fundamentals. Radiation integrals. Dipole and loop antennas. Microstrip antennas. Source equivalence principles. Aperture antennas. Reflector antennas. Array antennas. Antenna measurements. Introduction to the use of computational electromagnetics in antenna analysis & design. Modelling of wave propagation.
That sounds like an awesome course! Some of my favourite courses in fourth year were Microwave engineering and a course on propagation.

Indeed, why are there so many Poli nerds here on Calpuck?

Baron is fantastic. He's so hilarious with his huge vocabulary and his "I want to look like Bill Gates at 5 in the morning" look. It's too bad I've only ever had him for my U.S. Politics Class.

Kari Roberts was good, but she was paid and treatly horribly by the faculty I heard.

Huebert is just a nerd like the rest of them, but yeah, he's a little self-absorbed in the "context" of everything. He's also a giant Trekkie which is awesome because you know his love of warfare stems of Science Fiction space battles. Was anyone else besides Firefly in his course last semester?

Most people don't like Len Wilson, is he like the only Poli professor without a PHD? The two courses I've had with him, I've only been to about 10% of the classes because they were snoozefests. A- in both though.

My worst experience was Public Administration class with Doerr, oh man, she's a career administrator through and through, strict, old-fashioned, and pedantic to the nth degree. I worked twice as hard in that course as everything else and ended up with a B- (class average was like C+ or something and she doesn't curve). That totally screwed my GPA. Goodbye Law School.

This semester, I'm taking filler courses to fill out the rest of my options that I need along with Poli 411.

Arky 305, Biol 307, that Crime and Deviance Soci, and British Cinema Film Studies. Hopefully will graduate and then, who knows what. If not Law School, what do the rest of you Poli students plan for in terms of jobs/career?
