It can be done… flames trade Andersson for an unprotected first round pick in 2026 to a team that ends up taking a nose dive in the standings and that pick ends up being 1st overall. Despite being sellers at the TDL, the flames make the playoffs. They go on a Cinderella run to win the cup. Two weeks later… they pick 1st overall (from the Andersson trade) and 11th overall (from the Markstrom trade). A re-design of the new arena has to then happen to make room for the 200 foot statue of Conroy at the entrance.

IIRC, you were one of the loudest 'Honzek is a bust' pundits out there. Now you think he'll stick with the team and put up 20 goals. That's quite a turn around.

I have been a Honzek supporter from the get go, and I tried to talk the 'bust' posters off of that silly position. But I don't see any chance that he spends the season with the FLames, unless there are lots of injuries and/or trades, and they have no choice but to keep him.

Finally it is game day, although the off season was pretty entertaining this year.
Hoping for a win to start the season, but don't want the 2 points, as long as we win all of our games against the nucks and the oilers, but don't want to get too high in the standings, need a good draft pick. I'm so confused what we want this year
Oh well, great to have everyone back, lets have a fun season.

I think we start the season 6-4 or 7-3 based on the enthusiasm of youth in line up, games 11-30 that wears off and we only win 5-6 in a twenty game stretch.

LOL, I read the name Ryan Lomberg and saw a shaved head of Klapka and thought WTF - did he get some plastic surgery? LOL
Go Flames Go! - maybe win the first 2 games of the season and then lose the rest if possible. LOL

I'm expecting a lot of losses but I'll never cheer for them.
All I want is for the young players on the team to improve and whatever happens, happens.

When a team is young and rebuilding the losses are going to come. Why actively cheer for them? Cheer for the kids to play well and be a pain in the ass for teams. Wins will still feel good, don't get caught up in that "Cheering for a higher draft pick" ####.

I'm in the camp of compromised fans because of the conditions around our first round pick.
I think it will happen naturally with the roster that's put together, but it's hard for me to cheer for wins when so much of our future Stanley Cup aspirations hinge on a top 5-10 pick this year (and next, maybe).

I will cheer for growth and individual performances, and heck even some scrappy wins along the way to set the culture, but I'll rest easy if this team finishes where they should but show some spirit and growth along the way.

Exactly. A great example is the 2013-2014 season. That was the year the flames were often called “the hardest working team in hockey”. They ended the season drafting 4th overall but I remember enjoying watching them play a lot. The vets were good mentors and the young players were fun to watch. That was the year of the Flames-Vancouver opening face-off brawl. The point is that the team was bad but I can’t remember it being painful to watch. After years of stressing over every loss, it was nice to have a season where a win felt great and a loss felt like no big deal.

I think it's the opposite. Rough stretch to start while defense gets figured out but then we find a stride.

Which is then destroyed at the TDL.

I will be considerably distraught with picking up Floridas late 1st round pick this year should we finish out of the bottom 10.
With that said, I will leave my tank pamphlet in the drawer til later in the year when the situation becomes more clear on who they are and where they stand.

Just seeing all the hope and optimism injected into the organization through the selection of Parekh at 9... that is worth more to me than a few extra wins. I want to see a pick like that enter the organization again and compound that optimism even further.

seeing that the team is sort of embracing the re-build, I've taken it upon myself to care less, which will help with my stress. all this to say, I haven't been following this offseason as much as I usually do. Why is Coronato not playing? I seem to remember he started off the pre-season pretty hot. Are we at the point now where he might be like a Sven type of player/prospect?

I was mad when we gave up leads and lost in preseason. How am I going to cope with my brain which knows we need a fantastically high draft and keeping that pick for us?
I can’t cheer for losses but I’m definitely pulling for top5 in the draft. I know that it’s a direct correlation.

I’m hoping to be as disruptive as possible for the usual teams we don’t like. And maybe we get some teams in rest mode and backup goalies because the Oilers are never 2nd in a back to back.

 Go flames go!

They gave up a total of TWO one-goal leads in the 8 pre-season games.

That's a pretty quick trigger finger you've got there!
