The complication surrounds a Blues player, believed to be Torrey Krug, not willing to waive his NTC to come to the Flyers.
However, Briere is working to see if he can flip Krug to a team for whom he would waive his NTC.
The Flyers would get one of the Blues late first rounders…

Hope krug isn’t flipped to a potential hanifin destination…

Krug isn’t coming to Calgary. He’s an American, he won’t waive to go to Calgary.

I'm sorry...do we want him?
Expensive, horrendous defensively, wrong side of 30? Thanks but no thanks.

This is the other big reason (besides the cap) that it’s so difficult to make a trade in today’s NHL. Around half of the veteran players in the league have NTCs.

And are paid ridiculous amounts until they are mid 30's as their numbers decline.
Krug is injured every year. Games played over last 5 years....64, 61, 51, 64, and 63.
Paying him $6.5mm for 60 game seasons is like $8.5mm for a full season.
No wonder Blues are trying to ditch him.
Should make for an awkward training camp next year!!!

If Army wants to play hardball, tell krug that he will be waived. There’s ways around these clauses (apart from a nmc)

According to the Athletic the deal was:
To Blues:
Hayes (significant salary retained by Flyers)
Sanheim
To Flyers:
a Blues d-man who refused to wave his NTC - widely reported to be Krug
1st round pick

I don't see this as a great deal for the Blues. Even with salary retained, Hayes is really meh and Sanheim is just okay.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Good on Krug, but like Dadonov he must know he'll be dealt eventually. At least to somewhere more preferable to him than Philly.

Hayes with half retained is much better than Krug. And Sanheim is worth more than a late 1st. That deal would make the Blues a substantially better team in the next few years.

Travis Sanheim is a very good Top 4 dman. Definitely worth a 1st in my opinion.

Probably easy for me to say sitting at home with no chance of ever being traded, but I don't get refusing a deal from a team that clearly doesn't want you to be there.
I can get not wanting to go to Phllly, but there is a good chance they will do what they can to move you on to somewhere you want to go.
Maybe Krug thinks he can force St. Louis to make that deal, but if they don't sticking around a team that clearly doesn't want you seems to be a terrible situation to stay around for.

Why can't St. Louis just trade Kruf to somewhere he wants to go. Not sure why he needs to go to Philly first.

I assume that he is a key piece to making the current deal work, I assume for salary reasons, so maybe they don't have the time it would take to make that deal since they want to upgrade their team, where Philly has more time since they are clearly rebuilding.
My guess would be that a Krug deal would involve St. Louis/Philly taking bad salary back something St. Louis wants to avoid but Philly doesn't care about.

I love Philly's aproach.
"!@#$ it, get first round picks"
It's exactly what Calgary should be doing in the next few days here.

Also complicating the deal is that Sanheim has a full NTC that kicks in on July 1st.
So even if Krug does get figured out eventually, the deal might get kiboshed by Sanheim if it isn't figured out by Saturday.
