What a roller coaster this offseason has been and we haven’t even hit the draft.

Things started off poorly with some pretty harsh exit interviews. Followed by Treliving deciding to move on which was a bad look for the organization at the time as it seems like Sutter won a power struggle.

Things got better from there when Sutter was fired and Conroy chosen as the GM. The Huska hire was neutral at the time but I think good after listening to him in several interviews. The good news kept pouring in with word Iginla has joined the team and will be among the braintrust at the draft.

Then we have the news of today. Hanifin who has been rumored to not be interested in staying has been confirmed to not want to extend and play elsewhere. Toffoli has requested a trade and word is Backlund and Lindholm likely won’t extend either. Mitch Love made the decision to leave despite rumors he was offered a spot here.

The Savard news is hopefully the beginning of another positive upswing that includes the returns on the numerous trades we can expect in the next 2 weeks

Love this hire. Don’t really care about the other assistant coach as I think Huska will have a good chunk of his focus on the D and PK anyways.

He can get the most out of the round round of Scott Nichol, Clark Wilm, and Jeff Shantz who will be part of the teams top 9 and second unit powerplay.

Feels like we've had a lot of "meh" to straight up bad news in Flames land over the last week or two.
Finally something positive!

Glad the bridge is mended with Savard. Wish we could have retained Love but hopefully this group creates better relationships with players.

At the time all the stuff with Savard and Gilbert was going on, I heard some stories from a pretty reliable source about the locker room drama that was going on. I am pretty convinced that Gilbert was behind everything, including that.

We should have FireGilbert weigh in.

I guess no Tanguay. Happy with Savard though.

Yes, essentially second in command.

Good on Savard. Guess he's been coaching the last couple years since he hasn't posted a youtube video on how NHL players tape their sticks.

Great news with Savard. I am a bit surprised (and pleasantly so). There was talk about hiring someone experienced in an advisory role - looking at the assistants, it doesn't seem to have been addressed yet. I wonder if that is still the plan, or if the Flames (and with the apparent direction this team is headed in) no longer feel that is necessary? I guess we will find out shortly.

I am actually pretty excited to see what Savard brings... I feel a bit bad for Love though.

but even though Savard is a former Flame, he's been gone a long time and has a lot of experience with other organizations. Lots of talk of how good he is on the offensive side of things.

Hoping this works as well on the ice as it sounds with Savard

Why feel bad for Love? He took a job elsewhere. And frankly, it reeks of sour grapes.

What is the word on this Lambert fellow hired as an assistant today. Don't even know what his first name is.

I approve. Really looking forward to the net few weeks and beyond. A lot of fresh faces behind the bench and on the ice will be awesome.

Dan Lambert. Was an assistant for Nashville most recently. Ties to Kelowna Rockets before that.

"As of 30 May 2023, Lambert is no longer the assistant coach of the Nashville Predators, after serving as the assistant coach from 2019-2023. Consulting on the team's forward group and working with its power-play units, Nashville went 19.5 percent on the man-advantage during Lambert's tenure, including a 24.4 percent mark in 2021-22, the highest in team history."
