I have a fully-loaded leather Steelcase Gesture (with headrest) that I love, but if I could do it all over again, my choice would be the Generation by Knoll. We have them in our downtown office, and it is more comfortable in my opinion than the Steelcase Leap, Gesture, and the Herman Miller Aeron. Just a fantastically comfortable chair.

Interesting thanks, kind of reminds me of the Herman Miller Sayl. Will have to find one to try!

I kind of miss having the option to go into the office if I want.

I am 1 or two employees my company has in Calgary.

We both work from home, there is no office.

Me too, though I'm 1 of 1 in Calgary.

The company I work for has its head office in Vancouver and a large satellite office in Toronto. Both locations are having holiday celebrations at a restaurant. I haven't been consulted, and I don't know how I feel about this.

I am the only person that is not able to join due to my location and I haven't been offered a GC or bonus or anything, which seems odd.

I'll probably bring it up in a passive-aggressive joking way in the new year and make everyone feel bad.

That sucks

We have 5 employees in Mulletville, we went up there for a party.

OT, but I woke up to a big cooler of steak on my front step this morning. It was from our company owners thanking me for the work I've done since I joined the company in April of this year.

We have both Knoll Generation and Herman Miller Embody chairs here and I go back and forth between them. The Generation interesting since you can lean your whole body over the top and lean your arm over the back like a couch.

The Embody is my dream chair right now. I had a contract a number of years ago at Fortis, and their boardroom had them. It was the first time I sat in a chair and was so shocked at how comfortable it was I had to ask what kind of chair it was. So comfortable...and expensive. If your company is looking to dump one, let me know

When I first looked for a chair for my home office about 10 years ago, I found a store that carried all of the big names. Based on research beforehand, I thought I wanted the Humanscale Freedom. But after sitting in it (along with the Aeron, the Leap, and a few others), I was shocked that the Freedom was easily the least comfortable chair I tested. The Leap was a clear leader with the Aeron almost as comfortable but not quite. You really have to sit in a chair to know if it is right for you or not.

That sounds like a legitimate gripe.

Unlike a few whiny people with my company. Some of them in other cities negotiated full time WFH as part of their employment. Some even moved way out into the sticks knowing they never have to go into the office again.

But then whenever we have any perks for the people who come in, be it free food, team building activities or parties, they flip the #### out and make a big scene at the meetings, complaining loudly how unfair it is that they’re being excluded from all the office benefits. They even complain when offices in other cities get stuff. It’s just sad.

They’ve asked for reciprocal items, like gift cards, free dinners or skip vouchers on multiple occasions and been told they can rip up their WFH agreements and come in and it shuts them up. Until the next time there’s feee muffins or some #### and they throw another hissy fit.

It’s pathetic and everyone hates them. Based on how toxic their attitudes are, I think it’s best for them and for the rest of their teams, that they stay WFH permanently.

I'm curious - what do they do for childcare when they're working from home? Pulling double duty?

For me, I'd find that impossible to do anything well - we put our kids in daycare when we could, even when working from home full time.

I wonder about that as well. There is no way that someone can effectively work from home and care for a toddler or two at the same time. If it is a school aged kid that is a much different and easier situation but toddlers require a lot of attention throughout the day.

Yeah, having the option to go in if you want would be nice. She's now mandatory in-person M-Th and any work from home days are considered absences.

I don't complain when in office people get free food or other benefits, we're usually invited to go into the office to partake too.

What doesn't feel fair is how everyone else seems to have enough free time to spend it on half day social functions or all hands meetings with games and prizes.
