So after game 14 I’d say there are still a handful of players not filling their roles. Most of the roster is rounding into form. Like Markstrom.

I’d say the following players are the last to perform to their standard.

Dube: I think they were depending on him taking a big step this year. That has not happened. If anything he has taken a step back. I wonder if there would be anyway to replace him with someone from the minors. Like Zary.

Rooney: He’s looked serviceable for a 4th line center in some of the games. But other games downright awful.

Mangiapane: Invisible on many nights but looked good last night. Hopefully the start of a turnaround.

Coleman: Like Dube and Mangiapane. Invisible some nights. Maybe not invisible because you see him a lot. But he doesn’t really accomplish much.

Huberdeau: seems to be struggling big time with how to fit into the Flames structure. With Ruzicka and Lindholm gelling I hope they try him with Kadri and Mangiapane. Especially with Dube struggling. Our offense and powerplay need him to get going.

Everyone else in my mind is playing to their potential.

I have a feeling Dube is not going to get to where they want him to be. I think Mangiapane, Coleman and Huberdeau will eventually right the ship. Rooney could easily be sent to the minors.

Hoping they give some AHLers a shot at 3rd line winger or 4th line center. I think the Flames will bring in a top line RW at the deadline.

Hands down it’s Mangiapane for me. Big raise and only 2 goals. It’s not like he is new to the system . Flames are counting on him getting 30 goals.

If he keeps playing the way he did last night, things will turn around for him.

Everyone but Backlund, Lewis, Tanev, Zadorov, Toffoli and Ruzicka (already stepping up). Kadri and Weegar get honorable mention since they’re playing solid and are still learning new system.

Yeah
It’s not uncommon to see players slide, at least for a little while, after signing that first big contract
Must be a huge change
Hopefully he comes around soon

I'm going to go out on a limb and say: All of them.

All of the players need to step up a bit. Some a bit more than others.

What really, really worries me, even moreso lately, is Tanev.

I was really concerned about this team at the tail end of the playoffs, when Tanev went down, this team was like night and day.

We saw it again just recently. Tanev goes down and this team hits the skids something fierce, Tanev comes back and the slide abruptly halts.

I was stoked at the acquisition of Weegar because I thought having another top defenceman would lessen the burden on Tanev and Weegar could step up and mitigate some of the turmoil when Tanev inevitably goes down occasionally.

But we're not seeing that, we're seeing more of the 'same old, same old' Tanev goes down and its like this team has no idea what they're doing.

Its very concerning.

No one needs to step up. They need to execute.

Step up insinuates a lack of effort. The effort is there, probably too much.

Confidence enables execution. They need confidence.

However they also need to earn their confidence. In practice, in games, with & for each other.

Sutter knows this, and that it’s part of the ebs & flows of a season.

Ahh yeah totally right. Thanks adding Toffoli. He’s been really solid so far and has had some timely goals.

Yeah, I think it's a valid concern.

However, I also think it is important to remember that it wasn't just Tanev that was hurt. When you lose 3 d-men, including your most important, there is going to be a drop in play.

But yeah, Tanev is a god. Even though he only played 17 minutes last night, and probably played an average game by his standards, that blocked shot on the Jets' PP was one of the moments that won them the game. When one of your leaders is throwing his body in front of slapshots, the first game back from injury, it sends a huge message to the bench.

Andrew Mangianpane. He played well last game but he's getting paid $5.8 million!! to score goals. He has two.
But please do tell me how Lucic and Lewis are getting too much ice time.

Strange. Guy works so hard to make it to the NHL, has an impact on a very good team and no word as to his scheduled return?

Hoping whatever it is he can work through things and be back soon.

They're not going to tell us until they decide to tell us because its none of our business.

Ask away, but your answer appears to be consistent silence.

I want Kylington the player back as bad as anyone, but if he's got stuff going on in his head or his life and he's not 100% here, then theres no point.

Let him sort out his life, he'll be back when he's good and ready.
