Trotz can command $5-$6m in Vegas or Philly. Can Winnipeg afford him? I doubt it.

Given the mess in their room right now, can they afford to NOT hire him? Winnipeg has largely been a cap team in recent years. They can plunk down $5-6 mil for the right coach, I'm sure.

IMO this significantly lowers the odds of Winnipeg getting Trotz.

Just that this guy is a real up and comer, seems to be hired as an Associate Coach, is not one of Trotz’ own guys.

Doesn’t make them seem serious about Trotz.

I can't imagine any reason to hire an associate head coach without a head coach in place unless the head coach has been hired as well. I don't think he has worked with Trotz as he came to the Capitals I believe the offseason Trotz left.

I read that Yzerman is also talking to Trotz about going to Detroit.

Yes, as far as head coaching is concerned.

He has been a head coach before...and an associate/assistant for a total of 12 years. Does that make Lucic an up and comer too?

He would be the 4th oldest head coach in the league after Darryl, Boudreau, and Ruff. Average age is 52.7.

JUst based on what I’ve read he’s a guy many are saying is being touted as a head coach for a number of teams. That’s all.

And 59 is quite young, take my word for it.

Pretty weird indeed, unless they really want him and he had other offers. I guess his history with the organization (the Moose) has something to do with it.

He’s been assistant or associate with some darn good coaches: Ruff, Vigneault, Laviolette.

I remember Arniel being talked about as a rising up and comer... back in the late 2000s.

Is he still employed by the Islanders? If he was available I have to imagine teams would be sniffing around. If I was running a team I would have no issue paying him associate head coach money as goaltending can make or break a team.

The Isles didn't fire him but never said he was staying either. He's always gone where Trotz has gone. He's great - look at the goalies' records he's coached before, during and after his tenure. Look at Holtby especially.
