Ya I asked about that too, it's ok to leave it blank. Must have been something else like Cec said.

^^I skipped the fluoride plebiscite and there was no issue with scanning my ballot.
However, I had heard this morning from someone at work that their polling station was backed up quite significantly (30+ min) due to the tabulator not working well.

I’ve read this three times and I’m still not sure what you’re asking.

My question was answered by others.

The tabulator issue at my polling station seemed to be that some of the polling station workers weren't putting their initials in the box on the top right corner of the ballot. It only delays things for a minute, but you do that 4-5 times when there is already a line and it just adds to the process.

It was a good time. They were also reprehensibly stingy with those stickers.

My guy clearly said I can vote for Senate or School Board if I knew but I could also leave them blank. No issues with the machine.

Also, what stickers?

Went at 11:30AM in a latte sipper neighborhood. Lots of voting booths no wait.

There was a whole table of "I Voted" stickers...thousands of them! The old guy at my voting station totally 'Soup Nazi'd' me out of a sticker.

- No Sticker for you!

"But I voted though...."

- NO!

Ah damn, I didn't get a sticker either. And I know that they were handing out stickers because I saw people coming out with a sticker when I was going in.

Voted this morning. With the whole process, I can see loooong lines happening. One guy was at the vote table for a solid 3 minutes. Around 1 minute was the norm.

I demand very little for doing my Civic duty, a sticker seems like a small ask.

			Mayor: GondekWard 12: Branagan
 Fluoride: Yes
 DST: No
 Equalization: No
 Senate: Thunder, Kinney, Pillay

Really hated how they phrased the equalization question - I feel like that passes with flying colours given the wording. Also disliked the DST question as it really focused on changing the clocks rather than the impact of summer hours full time. Doesn't Elections Alberta have some sort of standard here?

Sounds like the Alberta questions (DST, Equalization, Sentate) won't be ready until the 26th? I'm all for waiting to get the results right, but over a week is odd given the scantrons we filled out.

I disagree actually, I was all for an Equalization review, but the wording of it making it seem like it was going to be eliminated? Thats a hard 'No.'

Realistically Equalization isnt going anywhere, nor should it. But can it be more equitable? Or fairer? Maybe.

But complete elimination? That is so preposterous as to be laughable.

I realize I vote for leftist for politicians for municipal, provincial, and federal because I feel those day to day government decisions should be taken from that viewpoint.
But I vote conservative for senate because it's supposed to the chamber of second sober thought and restraint against radical legislation.

It’s not actually proposing an end to equalization, just removing the section mentioning it from the Constitution. Equalization payments existed before that was in the Constitution, and it could exist after as well.

Just to highlight the meaninglessness of the exercise further.

And that's how you get good laws like assisted dying legislation blocked by people with views shaped by religious morals instead of humanity. Not sure I like that strategy.

I think the reason that they phrased it the way they did is because removing it from the constitution is (obviously) a constitutional question, while revising the formula is a comparatively routine matter. There are conservative pundits who claim that there's a precedent set by the supreme court case regarding Quebec's referendums (specifically that the federal government would be obligated to negotiate in good faith with Quebec concerning separation following a successful referendum); and that precedent would require the federal government to enter into negotations with Alberta following a successful referendum. (Obviously, the federal government wouldn't, and then perhaps the Alberta government would pursue legal action.)

I'm skeptical that the precedent applies here, but I think this is the confrontational path forward they've identified.

I've got a crazy busy day and am hoping to vote tonight after the kids go to bed. That means I won't be able to get to my polling station until 7:30ish.
Does anyone know if the polls close at 8:00pm even if there are people in line or do they stay open until everyone in line has voted?

Everyone in line at 8 pm gets to vote.

To each their own, but given the current state of the Canadian conservative movement with the UCP, CPC, PPC, etc., I'm not sure that you'd be getting the "sober thought and restraint" that you're looking for.

Doesn't matter anyway though - the senate "election" is a charade.
