More on Iggy, this time about his Christmas day battles against Craig Conroy on the backyard rink. By Wes Gilbertson: https://calgarysun.com/sports/20-to-...-jarome-iginla
Quote:
“Jarome had this little rink in his backyard and he’d tell me, ‘Bring your skates. We’re going one-on-one,’ ” Conroy reminisced. “So it’s Christmas, and we only get a couple of days off, and we’d be out there battling one-on-one in his backyard. Seriously. He’d beat me, and I’d tell him, ‘Jeez, you really know how to ruin a guy’s Christmas.’ ”
This story, perhaps better than any other, sums up Iginla’s love for the sport that made him famous, made him a multi-millionaire, made him a net-filling fan favourite and now a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
|
He also confirmed his intentions to move back "West":
Quote:
Now 43, Iginla is currently living in the Boston area — he popped up this past weekend on a local news report about a wicked winter storm — but plans to eventually return closer to his roots.
His close buddy Conroy should perhaps be ready for an invite to Christmas dinner … with a catch.
“We’re going to move back west, so we’ll have to set that up again,” Iginla chuckled. “I better beat him now.”

Kelowna might be a nice place to spend summers, but for someone raising kids it likely doesn’t offer much. AZ probably makes more sense, especially if there is family there already.

Have you lived there (Kelowna)?
It was an amazing place to grow up.
Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall.
A bit small town at times, but skiing and hockey in the winter with fairly mild temperatures. Great place to live as a kid.

^^^ I was thinking more about school/training/sports facilities, since I understand that is why they chose Boston after retirement in the first place. No idea if his kids will remain in competitive sports but I’m guessing a bigger US city will offer more in that department than a smaller Canadian one (especially if money is no issue).
Kelowna does seem like a nice place to grow up though. Only visited there (as a kid), never lived there.

I think “moving back west” means he’s hinting at a comeback. He sees the need for a top line RW. Also, Blasty is back which he was appreciative of.
