Staples is a dumbass lol. The entire fan base is so delusional. They realize we are playing the Stanley cup champs in a much more important game the night before right? Who gives a #### about kassian.

Janko should really be taking his spot in the a but the curse of feaster lives on like a foul dairy fart in an enclosed office.

This is nothing more than rewarding a player IMO. Stockton doesn't play a game until Saturday. Buddy will be on the roster to pick almost a weeks worth of NHL salary.

Then talking about Robinson and crowing, our fringe big player is tougher then your fringe player.
What would be great is if the Flames beat up the Oilers on the scoreboard, and the Oilers do nothing physically because the cowardly lion Kassian hears the crunching of the ice under Lucic's blades, and Staples loses his mind and requires a leave of absence never to return.

It feels like the Oilers media has become obsessed with this whole deal. If Oilers players are nearly this focused on Matty then I kind of feel like he has done his job really, really well.

100%. Staples and other media are just helping to spread this brain infection among the rabid fans. My friends here are all focused on wednesday like it's the stanley cup finals. (Completely ignoring the fact that they've had two weeks off while we will be playing ~20 hours after facing the actual cup champs.)
When I bring up that Saturday will be way more important (due to point spread, the other pac games happening, and the build up and focus that can go into the game) they scoff and say it's just because I'm worried about the outcome of wednesday.
Nah dudes, I just don't really care at all about the Oilers.

This seems like a pointless call up.
The Flames don't need more size for a game or two against the Oilers. They have enough toughness in the lineup. If he does dress, its going to be in a 4L role. He won't touch the game in a meaningful way if they want him for grit.
What they do need is scoring and while Robinson has 16 goals in the AHL if he plays on the 4L he isn't going to contribute on the scoresheet (most likely).
So, what is the point?
As someone noted its probably a reward. And some insurance in case there is a "hangover" (actual or perceived) from players that have been away for a week.

I sincerely hope that the Flames are simply trolling the Oilers with this call up.

Johnny badly needs a forward with some size, strength, and physicality on his line. We don't have enough to go around. RHS is preferred. Perhaps they would try Robinson there.

You really think the plan is to put a 28-year-old AHLer with only seven NHL games to his credit on one of the top-two lines? It seems to me that most obviously this is all about rewarding the player. It follows a pattern the team has taken all season with their minor leaguers.

I said perhaps. Who knows what they're thinking. But a RHS 6'6 power forward would perfectly fit what Johnny needs on his opposite wing.
You're trying to make 4 lines that work. Let's not get too hung up on the top 6 vs bottom 6 distinction. Ward wants to roll 4 lines in an ideal world. Johnny's line has been subpar most of the year. He's looked some of his best IMO with Lucic opening up space for him. Perhaps Robinson can do a similar role.
I mean its desperation time to get Gaudreau going isn't it? If Gaudreau never gets in a groove this season it'll be a lost season. Backlund ain't the answer.

Not sure about Gaudreau specifically, but I agree with the general line of thinking. We're trying to get more lines going, and we have forwards who are just not producing in Rieder and Jankowski. We've also just been flat in a lot of games recently.
I feel like giving our best AHL guys a chance is kind of a no-brainer in this situation. Excited guys tend to bring a bit of a spark, even if it's usually temporary.

Good to even just have Buddy out for warmup. Hey dip####s, if you do anything stupid, I'll be playing in the next game. At home. Where we control the matchups.

I don't think any one on the Oilers is worried about Buddy Robinson. He is big and he's willing but he's not going to scare any Oiler, lest of which Kassian.
Kassian would wreck Robinson in a fight.
I bet Nurse would probably wreck Robinson too.
I doubt he dresses against Edmonton. As others have said, this is about rewarding a guy, maybe also give Johnny some good vibes having a childhood buddy around.

Kassian isn't that good a fighter. Especially against big guys. Nurse is far better, actually. But Lucic is better still.

I don't even need to see their bodies to know which guy I'd be more afraid of in a bare knuckle contest. edit: it's Robinson.
Walking down a dark alley at night? I'm definitely more afraid of the other guy to stab me while he's tweaked out. edit: it's Kassian
Buddy looks like a nice guy. I doubt he's a particularly great fighter. In the clips above, he seems happy enough (and very capable) to just lock guys down. Except in the 3rd clip with Aulie, who's actually in his weight/height class, and he's a bit pissed off after a hard hit. That looked...painful for Aulie.
I bet most of Robinson's fights come from upstarts trying to prove themselves in the prison yard.

I don't think that's a strong argument when you consider that Jarome had a smile that could light up a house but could also go toe-to-toe with anyone in the league.
