Yeah how dare Backlund make good defensive plays by stripping pucks and driving the net to create scoring chances. Be so much better if the other team had the puck.

No they haven't gone in. At some point his luck will obviously turn. Then you can critique what part of the net he put it in I guess.

I don’t know about y’all, but my jaw is still on the floor from Janko’s wizard move.. that was awesome 👏 Too bad it wasn’t a goal. Thought he did very well tonight, his heart was full

Backlund has terrible finish but he is still a quality NHLer...better suited in a third line role though.

Good game. I'll take it. 1st goal for Flames in a game , above normal 2019 game effort from the Flames.

Finish strong in Buffalo now.

Rule 74 – Too Many Men on the Ice
74.1 Too Many Men on the Ice - Players may be changed at any time
during the play from the players’ bench provided that the player or
players leaving the ice shall be within five feet (5') of his players’
bench
and out of the play before the change is made.

Both Penguins that were coming off the ice were by the Penguins blueline when their replacements hopped on the ice.
Illegal substitution seems pretty specific, and if I read right doesn't apply here.

Rule 68 – Illegal Substitution
68.1 Illegal Substitution – An illegal substitution shall be deemed to have
occurred when a player enters the game illegally from either the
players’ bench (teammate not within the five (5) foot limit, refer to Rule
74 – Too Many Men on the Ice), from the penalty bench (penalty has
not yet expired), when a major penalty is being served and the
replacement player does not return to the ice from the penalty bench
(see 68.2), or when a player illegally enters the game for the sole
purpose of preventing an opposing

I do think it was an obvious too many men though.

Isn't that exactly this situation?

Again, if the ref didn't want to call a too many men penalty an illegal substitution whistle was correct. The Penguins changed well before the tired players were within 5 feet.

I get the mentality of not wanting to call a penalty in OT, but this should have been a whistle regardless.

Where did I say he was bad defensively? Maybe some reading comprehension would help. He is useless WHEN HE HAS A GRADE A SCORING CHANCE.

I'm happy with the effort. Hard to believe how snakebitten Gaudreau and Backlund are.

There are some pretty simple reasons why Flames are 30 th in GF per game in the NHL.

Johnny is one of the main guys responsible for that team stat.

He has 2 assists and is -9 over the last 6 games.

I was responding to the guy who wants Gaudreau off the top line so the "top producers" can play there

Gaudreau is a top producer despite poor play by his standards

Tonights game was a good effort and a coin flip in the end... definitely a step in the right direction

Making or getting a grade A scoring chance is never useless. At least he is getting them while not letting the opposition score. They will start going in.

Thought the Flames has a pretty good game. Puck movement by the top line was a lot better than it has been in a long time.

Flames looked good for the larger part of the game.
It's the kind of loss that would be no big deal if it wasn't their 7th of 8 or whatever.

Didn't see the game, but it sounds like the team played well. Points in 2 straight games on the road? I'll take it.

Once again, I thought that Mangiapane had an excellent game, but with nothing to show for it. I think he sticks on the second line for the remainder of the season.
