Finally! First Flame to win a Norris! Congrats Gio!
Still amazing to me after all these years that MacInnis never won it as a Flame.

He had to compete with Ray Bouque and Paul Coffey. Pretty stiff competition.

Ryan Pike
@RyanNPike
Mark Giordano gets 96.5% of first place Norris votes; last player in that vicinity was Nicklas Lidstrom in 2008 (94.5%). #Flames

Don’t care! the year they gave it to Bourque instead of Big Al who had 100+ points was wrong

1990-91 - MacInnis 103 pts and +42
1990-91 - Bourque 94 pts and +33
Both had outstanding seasons, but one was a bit better. Unfortunately, they gave it to the person who should have been the runner-up.

Amazing accomplishment by Giordano. Norris at the young age of 35, and winning it in that fashion.

Gio is the obvious choice here and his 74 points is ridiculous but what's really nuts is Burns' 83 points?!? Jesus. That guy is a machine.
Still, Gio at a +39 and his overall defensive body of work was spectacular. I believe Burns himself thought Gio should win it towards the end of the season if I am remembering correctly.

Did Burns said that as well? I read it that Hedman said Gio should win it.

Looks like the Eastern media listened to Drew Doughty. Great for Giordano to go from an undrafted CHL player to a Norris winner. Great season by him this past year.

Asked Giordano about the "young and fresh" comment in his Norris Trophy acceptance speech. Which, of course, his 20-something teammates found hilarious: “I ended it on that note and the boys back at home let me hear about it...
I’ve been getting texts from Chucky and Benny and all the young guys. They’ve been sending me ‘young and fresh’ texts."
